PgCert Counselling Skills

Course Description

The PgCert in Counselling Skills is a useful qualification for working in the helping and caring professions such as education, health or social care, and for those planning to take further training in psychology or counselling.

The PgCert course can be taken as a stand-alone qualification. It is available on a full time basis only and comprises three core units:

Psychodynamic Counselling Skills
Humanistic Counselling Skills
Professional Practice Issues in Counselling

Upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Skills, students will be able to:

Develop therapeutic relationships in order to practice psychodynamic and humanistic counselling skills, with a working knowledge of legal, ethical and other professional frameworks.
Practise counselling skills with a critical awareness of the impact of disadvantage, discrimination and wider social values on the counselling and psychotherapy encounter.

Entry Requirements

You will normally have a Min 2:2 UK Honours Degree (or international equivalent), (second class or above), or a postgraduate diploma, or degree-equivalent professional qualification. You will also hold a GCSE or equivalent in English language. Experience in a helping or care role is desirable but not essential. Applications will be assessed on an individual basis.
