MA Working with Young People, Commnity Education and Development

Course Description

This course offers an opportunity for Continuing Professional Development for graduate professionals working in the field of youth work and/or community education and development. The core unit explores current debates concerning the Principles and Practice of Informal Education, conducted in community contexts and offers the opportunity for investigation in your own work settings. The optional units enable students to deepen their critical practice in particular aspects of the work. The final dissertation encourages a sustained practitioner enquiry and provides a strong foundation in debates in research and evidence-base for practice.

This post-qualifying professional development programme in youth and community work offers professionals who are working in the field in youth and community work or related areas an opportunity to engage and explore in current debates surrounding the principles and practice of informal education.

The optional units offer a personalised approach to learning, allowing professionals to make their critical analysis applicable to their area of work.

This course will:

Benefit those working in youth work, youth offending teams, mentoring projects, community and/or pastoral roles in colleges or schools, in Pupil Referral Units as youth workers, in arts-based projects, in community and voluntary sector projects and in other out of school and adult education roles.

Entry Requirements

You will normally have an undergraduate UK honours degree or international equivalent or equivalent professional qualification, demonstrable understanding of and interest in preventing unjustifiable discrimination and disadvantage, and a range of relative experience.Applicants who have a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma may enter the course with advanced standing to continue their studies at the appropriate level.

Course Fees

Part-time UK and EU students: £700 per 30 credit unit. A Masters qualification typically comprises 180 units.
