PgDip/PgCert/MA Education Studies/ English Language Teaching

Course Description

This is a flexible programme designed to meet the needs of a wide range of education professionals, particularly international students who wish to teach English. It provides participants with the chance to study educational policy and practice within an increasingly globalised context and to extend their knowledge and understanding of English teaching and learning, especially in the Primary School. You will benefit from being in an academic environment in which you are challenged to confront and critically reflect on educational issues. You will gain new insights into contemporary policies and practices and in particular, approaches to teaching and research methods with specific reference to the teaching of English.

Students following the part-time study route can take up to 2 years to complete both phases of the programme.

Taught sessons are mainly conducted during weekdays, though some may be offered at weekends and in the evening. In addition to the taught sessions you will be expected to work independently. This independent work will sometimes be directed by the tutor. In addition to these directed tasks, you are also expected to spend time developing preparation for assignments by independent reading, research and reflection.

Optional units include:
-Global Perspectives in Education
-Research Methods in Education
