This course is for teachers involved in mentoring initial teacher training (ITT) students or newly qualified teachers, teachers returning to practice or teachers entering a new area of professional practice. Mentors who are, or have previously been, mentoring ITT students and have attended Partnership sessions or similar may gain accreditation for the first unit. For the second unit you will keep a log of your involvement in the process of mentoring over two terms. For the final unit you may elect either to undertake an independent practitioner study, or to attend a taught unit from the Institute of Education’s Professional Development Programme.
•You may be able to claim APL/exemption from some elements of this programme if you have Masters credits from a PGCE.
•This course contains blended learning as an optional learning method for some aspects of the content.
You will normally have an undergraduate honours degree or equivalent (such as an initial professional qualification or an international qualification), or a postgraduate award. You will be encouraged to claim accreditation for prior learning in any field of education as well as the specialist area that you intend to study.
