The current context for this new PgDip Teaching of Reading is the priority given to literacy in general and the teaching of early literacy in particular. The publication of the Rose report in March 2006 has clear implications for initial teacher education. However, feedback from newly qualified teachers suggests that many would appreciate the opportunity to develop further their skills in this area once in post.
This award seeks to enhance subject knowledge in the area of phonology as well as supporting the development of good practice overall in the development of literacy skills in children.
