This programme is for practitioners from a range of contexts who want to study for a doctoral level award that is professionally focussed. The course aims to offer a stimulating and challenging programme of research training leading to sustained enquiry into the student's own practical situation.
Our Education and Social Research Institute (ESRI) is in the top 10 of UK research intitutes and classed as 'world-leading'.
The course is in two parts and has the advantage of being able to offer a two year taught phase (Phase A) which takes place over a number of weekends. The course is student-centred and as well as being taught by staff eminent in their fields, the weekends enable students to work collaboratively in a network of supportive relationships.
Phase A covers personal, institutional and system features of professionalism and draws on relevant aspects of educational evaluation and research, management theory, philosophy and social theory and policy sociology. Phase B is the dissertation.

Doctor of Education Doctor of Education: Early Years Doctor of Education: Health Care Studies Doctor of Education: Leading and Managing Learning Institutions Doctor of Education: Inclusive Education You may elect to focus upon one of the above named outcomes within your thesis or to pursue a more general area of study.

This programme is aimed at educators in a range of professions, for example, teachers, head teachers, health care professionals, police trainers, university and college lecturers, education advisors.

You will normally have a Masters degree, or evidence of having written at that standard, and four years experience working in a professional educational role. All applicants will be interviewed prior to acceptance on this programme.
