Master of Surgery

About This Masters Degree

Course Description

Overview
Our Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) is the first medical school in Australia to offer credentialed sub-speciality, post-fellowship training. It is located next to Macquarie University Hospital, Australia’s only private hospital on a university campus. In other words, our researchers and teachers are given a uniquely high level of support.

The Master of Surgery (MSurg) is a two year, full time program which allows students to acquire a university qualification demonstrating mastery of surgical competence to support their career goals and life-long learning skills.

The program is designed as a combination of units with three broad characteristics: hands-on surgical skills with rigorously assessed competencies; practice of surgery in a framework of ethics, education and research; and enhancement of leadership capabilities. Through a comprehensive approach to developing surgical expertise, and with the highly developed technical input from the academic surgeons, the Master of Surgery provides a unique opportunity for surgeons to further develop their competence, knowledge and understanding as professionals, leaders and scholars in the area of surgery.
