Course Description

Determining asset prices and optimal investments
Practical experience is essential to this track. You can combine an internship with writing your thesis on the company you’re interning with. Previous students have spent three months at ING Bank or APG Pension Fund while completing their thesis.

The annual ‘banking tour’
Unique to this track, you will have the chance to go to London and Frankfurt on a ‘banking tour’. You will have the opportunity to meet banking professionals, talk about the strategy and culture of their financial institutions, discuss your thesis and look into your career possibilities.

Asset Pricing is a 1-year, full-time programme and is taught entirely in English. Graduates will a master's degree in Financial Economics with a specialisation in Asset Pricing.

Asset Pricing combines economic theory, finance and econometrics. The financial employment market needs specialists who are familiar with all of these things. This is because individuals and businesses now have a huge range of choice as to what financial products they buy. They need advice from asset pricing specialists in order to make those choices. The Asset Pricing track will give you the tools to give the best advice to your future clients.

What will you learn?
You will learn how to make forecasts of financial trends in order to make better investment decisions. You will also be able to recognise, analyse and solve financial economic problems, in relation to the larger regulatory and economic environment in which they exist.

At the end of the track, you will be able to:

• solve complex financial problems in order that investment decisions can be made
• be aware of how financial systems works, and how these translate into the functioning of economies
• provide solutions that use economic, financial and econometric skills to make the best investment decisions
• determine how the price of financial assets is set

Due to the changing nature of financial markets, specialists in asset pricing are in high demand. People who can translate financial theories into tangible actions are extremely valuable to today’s businesses. The track will give you skills in IT, research, econometrics and mathematics, all of which are useful commodities in any company. Of even more value are employees who have experience in an international environment. The Asset Pricing track enables you to gain such experience, through an internship at a multinational company, for example.
