Dan Harris

1709.jpg I chose to study MSc in Business Analysis and Management as I wanted to focus on the practical analysis of business data. The course has also increased my general understanding of a broad array of business disciplines.

Having previously studied here at undergraduate level, I wanted to stay here because I knew the university provided excellent resources and support. The School of Business and Economics is now widely acknowledged as a top-ten academic institution. I have also enjoyed getting involved with many of the Students’ Union’ activities, so staying at Loughborough has meant that I could continue to further benefit from these opportunities.

Studying for a masters degree has given me the opportunity to realign my career objectives. I wanted to work in Research & Development, but I didn’t want to spend years at the coal face; this course has taught me the key skills and concepts to be fast-tracked to business management.

The programme offers a large amount of contact time, with a useful mix of lectures, tutorials and IT lab sessions. The lecturers are all approachable and have helped me when I have needed extra academic support – for example, my personal tutor has also been excellent at helping me to prepare for job applications. The Loughborough Alumni bursary has also really helped me out, and there are even some full fee scholarships available from the Graduate School.

Obtaining a postgraduate qualification in business has opened the door to many other career paths; graduate employers will favour candidates who can hit the ground running. All of the graduate schemes that I have looked at include an element of taught business skills – the majority of these skills are covered in more depth on this course. I’ve found that employers have become far more interested in my job-applications so it has greatly increased my employability.

Aside from the academic side of things, Loughborough Students’ Union offers unrivalled opportunities to get involved in an ever increasing variety of activities. The Societies Federation, Athletic Union, Rag and Action provide a welcoming environment for students to get involved in whatever they enjoy. During my time at Loughborough, I have helped LS Rag fundraise a record-breaking one million pounds for charity. The Students’ Union has executive committee members dedicated to organising engaging activities specifically for postgraduates and international students - so there’s something here for everyone.
