MA Fine Art (Ceramics)

I chose Bath Spa University because it had the ceramic facility that I could combine with my present glass skills. It’s also local – being a mature student with a family I couldn't afford the time, money or logistics to pursue an MA further afield. The best thing about the course was it was flexible in accommodating my glass desires and studying part-time helped me with other family and commission commitments.

Highlights for me were taking part in the Holburne museum intervention, entering and being accepted for the Broomhill Sculpture competition, and being invited to make a presentation of my work to the Cornish Ceramics and glass society – quite a large, very professional group. These were tasks that doing the MA gave me confidence to take part in, as did visiting the Ibstock brick factory and approaching places for potential site specific projects.

Small but significant confidence boosters came from the college visits and seminars we were to produce as part of the course, and being in a position to step back and quantify the work, gave you faith in your own ability.
