Course Description

Entrepreneurs are made by their ingenuity and desire to pioneer their own fortunes. This course is a hothouse for this special skillset, and is one that encourages your innate sense of business acumen within a framework of surrounding expertise.

•Designed for those wishing to set up a new business venture or for current business owners wishing to enhance and develop their entrepreneurial skills

•Delivered by teaching staff with excellent records in academia and business

This Masters programme has been specially designed to develop creative business minds and forces for change in social innovation. Those able to recognise opportunities and develop lucrative ideas, will find a host of possibilities and the amass the skills required to contribute to the success of any economy.

The MSc Entrepreneurship delivers high quality entrepreneurial education, producing graduates with a strong mind-set and the skills and capabilities to add value to a range of organisations and new venture start-ups. If you have a passion for commerce and a genuine wish to succeed in your own business, this programme will enable you to achieve your professional ambitions.

You will develop exceptional and detailed theoretical and practical understanding of entrepreneurship. Your effective leadership skills will also be enhanced and you will gain a deep understanding of how to apply entrepreneurial principles and methods within organisations of all shapes and sizes, across borders and sectors.

You will understand how to identify opportunities and threats arising from changes in the business environment and the impact on entrepreneurial activity. Business and management concepts including marketing, financial analysis, law and economics will be covered so that you have a broad knowledge of their application and their critical importance in relation to your entrepreneurial activity.

Innovation, creativity and technology

You will generate creative ideas with commercial viability and apply tools and techniques to enable creative problem solving

Entrepreneurship concepts and practice

Critically assess the different entrepreneurial concepts and practices and their real world application

Entrepreneurship – Business to Business

Critically assess different opportunities and processes involved in selling products and/or services to other businesses

Psychology of entrepreneurship

Develop an understanding of the impact of psychology and leadership on entrepreneurial development and business success

Financial Planning

Explore the importance of developing a financial mind-set and recognising the importance of appropriate budgeting, financial management and forecasting in an entrepreneurial environment

Research Methods and Applied Research Methods

Identify and utilise appropriate methodological techniques to collect and analyse qualitative and/or quantitative data, enabling you to develop valid and reliable conclusions that facilitate informed business decisions

Extended Research Project

Building on the previous core modules, create a business plan to present to your selected audience, demonstrating your ability to assess and communicate the value of your idea

Modules are designated as core or option in accordance with professional body requirements and internal Academic Framework review, so may be subject to change. Students will be required to undertake modules that the University designates as core and will have a choice of designated option modules. Additionally, option modules may be offered subject to meeting minimum student numbers.
