The PGDE in Primary with Physical Education programme offers you an intensive training experience, designed to give you the skills, knowledge and attributes you will need when embarking on your teaching career.
The training is geared to meeting Teaching Standards and Qualified Teacher Status requirements. It will also support the development of your: •critical understanding of education theory and practice relevant to Primary practice, with a particular focus on the subject area of Primary physical education •reflective practice linked to professional development •practitioner research skills for effective teaching and learning •understanding and application of subject knowledge
The programme includes a mix of on-campus and school-based training, with the latter becoming predominant as you progress through the course. This is supplemented with online e-learning activities delivered via LJMU's virtual learning environment, Blackboard.
The University element of the programme is based around six modules focusing on: •Professional Practice •Developing Reflective Professional Practice •Subject Pedagogy in Primary and Physical Education •Pedagogy in Practice •Learning Teaching and Assessment •Inclusion
Your professional development will be monitored and supported throughout the duration of the course. You will leave with an e-portfolio and a Career Entry and Development Profile (CEDP) plus well developed reviewing and action planning skills that will stand you in good stead for your professional career. School-based training
You will spend 120 days in school-based training. Teaching will predominantly be at Key Stage 1 and 2, although there may be the opportunity to gain experience in the Foundation Stage. Experienced teacher mentors, working in partnership with LJMU tutors, will support your training in partner primary schools. The excellent relationships established between LJMU and partner schools will help to ensure that you have a successful placement experience. Support

Tutorial support is an important part of the process and you will receive personalised service that will enable you to set targets and achieve to your highest potential.
You will be expected to engage with a variety of enrichment experiences that challenge and extend your repertoire of skills and enhance employment potential. Such activities may include supporting learners in community based education projects and supplementary schools, Early Years settings and cultural organisations, and participation in school and university teaching projects.
You should hold, or be expected to achieve, at least a 2:2 Honours degree classification (or recognised equivalent). You should also have a minimum of 10 days experience of working in a primary school (in England or UK) environment.
