The PGCE Primary course lasts 38 weeks, of which you will spend approximately 20 weeks gaining practical experience in schools. School experience is divided into periods of serial attachment (one or more days per week). During these periods you will work in primary classrooms with the guidance of trained mentors. School and University-based elements of the course are interlinked.
You will be supported by a team of enthusiastic and experienced tutors during your studies at university and while on school experience. You will benefit from the participation of mentors from partner schools in your training programme.
It is a government requirement that you take the numeracy and literacy skills tests as part of the application process. You must ensure you have passed them both before the start of the course. Any offer of a place on the programme is made conditional on satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (formally the Criminal Records Bureau – CRB) and a satisfactory Fitness to Teach Declaration.
