The MA Education and Music is designed for practising teachers, educators and others with a personal or professional interest in the field of education. The programme aims to provide opportunities for engagement with key theories, concepts and ideas in Education and Music that link to the national curriculum.
The structure of the programme is designed to meet the needs of those seeking to develop a more academic understanding of Education and Music. The combination of Education and Music modules available allows teachers, educators and others to gain a named award and enhance their subject knowledge. The pedagogic framework provides theoretical and conceptual perspectives, including key ideas in Education and Music that serve to deepen the learning experience.
The Music route enables the development of an advanced understanding of the work of a range of music analysts, composers, musicians and musicologists, across a variety of genres, and in doing so aims to inform and integrate with educators’ own work with the current GCSE and AS/A2 Music curricula. The specialist Music modules are taught by practising composers, musicians and published musicologists actively engaged in research in their respective fields and the Music department at Hope boasts a healthy and eclectic research community. The programme provides the opportunity to make a detailed examination of scores and texts within the historical and cultural contexts of Music, whilst also exploring a variety of theoretical and practical approaches.
Applicants require a good honours degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.Please note that a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau is required for students where they are required to visit settings other than their own workplace and involves access to children.
