The course has been developed for those interested in developing their knowledge and ability in Psychology in general. It will also be the course that might be a good option for individuals who would like to develop their professional and academic skills, but do not intend to pursue a research career in psychology.
The course overlaps with the MSc in Psychological Research, but instead of emphasising research skills, this proposed programme will empower students with a range of professional skills. These skills are valuable, and highly sought after, in a range of different careers. The programme will also allow students to tailor their degree according to their interests, taking modules from our wide-range of world-class specialist modules.
In general, we aim to provide a high quality teaching and learning environment through the use of the latest teaching tools, team- taught courses, and closely mentored research with experts in clinical psychology.
Content and Structure This course consists of taught and research components that run concurrently. The taught component comprises the following modules:

Teaching, Learning and Assessment The curriculum is designed to extend your current knowledge of psychology and develop your professional skills. Teaching occurs via lectures, colloquium presentations, and seminar-style work with your thesis supervisor. Courses are guided by academic staff in their areas of expertise. Assessment methods include written exams, essays, blogs, oral presentations and a research thesis.

I am involved with student volunteering, and have been volunteering on numerous projects within Bangor for four years. I have also recently joined the pole fitness society! The fact that the clubs and societies here are free to join has allowed me to try things I wouldn’t have tried before, and increased my social circle. The food and venue was extremely posh! I had a great time at the What Uni Awards with excellent company, and meeting Hugh Dennis was an experience! Being able to go to London for the first time as well was very exciting for me.

Did you take up your postgraduate course straight after your first degree?
Yes, straight away, I finished my Master in France, did a 5-month work placement (part of my masters), and then applied and came to Bangor
Why did you choose this course at Bangor?
Because it is one of the very few consumer psychology masters in Europe (I didn’t check in France though, as I wanted to go anywhere but stay in France), and the School of Psychology in Bangor is well known and excellent. What's the course teaching you that your first degree did not?
Everything related to psychology. Even if I had personally looked some psychology related paper during my undergrad for my personal knowledge I haven’t had the opportunity to attend any psychology related modules during my undergrad.
How are you funding the course?
What job do you hope to have when you have finished?
In the short term I want to take a gap year, and later on apply for a PHD.
Do you think the course has improved your job prospects?
For an academic career obviously as it is the better way to access a PHD.
For a professional career, I would say yes as well, first of all because the topic I’m studying is very appealing for marketing related employers as they need a lot of psychologists, moreover numerous opportunities are given in Bangor to test our skills, meet people and so enhance our chance to get a job (e.g. Enterprise by Design, Social enterprise accelerator, Brolio/the pitch, Big Idea Wales).
Best things about studying at Bangor?
-The psychology related lectures and modules on the course are my favourites. -The people I met here, either academics and friends. -My house and housemates, we are 13 living in a house and we have a lot of fun together. -Nights out in Bangor, as even if the clubs are not as good as ones in big cities we still have loads of fun, and sometimes a great party pops up (mostly in Hendre Hall) -The opportunities to do extra curricula activities (related to study or work) -The hockey Club, and sports clubs in general -The gorgeous landscape surrounding the university (Pier, Hills, Snowdonia, Anglesea, … ), and the wonderful university buildings
Applicants should normally have a BPS-accredited first degree or a conversion degree in Psychology, usually with a 2(ii) or equivalent. In exceptional circumstances, a degree class lower than 2(ii), or a non-graduate qualification or relevant work experience may be deemed to be at a satisfactory standard for the purpose of postgraduate admission. IELTS 6.0 (no element below 5.5).
