Leadership and Change (MSc)

Course Description

The future depends on leaders with the vision to be at the forefront of economic growth and change - change that will not only aid the economy, but also ensure that this is accompanied by good and transparent governance.

This course has been designed to equip the next generation of leaders with skills in management, strategic planning, project design, implementation and monitoring, together with finance and management, or communication expertise.

You will develop your knowledge, skills and awareness enabling you to help leaders transform their organisations by providing leadership through the creation and communication of shared vision and values. This will help you to achieve world-class standards of performance. You will study the board, executive and good governance; leadership, change management, and the development and implementation of change. You will also gain the vital professional and transferable skills of leadership, effective communication, team building, project management and personal development.

Mature Applicants

Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

Leadership, Self & Creating the Future
You'll be introduced to theory and models of leadership, reflection, personal development and change and will have the opportunity to consider your own leadership strategies and behaviours.

Leading Organisational Change
Develop a greater understanding and insight in to the concepts and theories of leadership of change and evaluate the value of 'narrating the self' in informing reflections on change.

You will carry out an in-depth research project in a subject area that is appropriate to the course and of particular interest to you.

Comparative Employment Relations
Understand, analyse and evaluate competing theories and perspectives associated with comparative employment relations strategies, policies and procedures and their outcomes on organisational climate, employees and management.

Corporate Finance
Evaluate the fundamental concepts and theories of modern finance, identifying how these can be effectively applied in both national and multinational organisations.

Employee Engagement
Undertake a critical study of employee engagement from the perspectives of the practitioner and the academic. Relate employee engagement to factors such as leadership, performance, well-being and organisational commitment.

Explore a range of entrepreneurship theories and practices, taking an in-depth examination of business start-ups, the experiences of entrepreneurs and key aspects of small business management.

Management, People & Organisations
Develop functional knowledge and a critical understanding of key perspectives on human behaviour within an organisation and on the nature and processes of organising and managing human activity.

Managing Employment Relations
Understand, analyse and evaluate competing theories and perspectives associated with managing employment relations strategies, policies and procedures and their outcomes on organisational climate, employees and management.
