Designed to support and enhance the professional practice of academic and learning support staff working in Higher Education, our course will help you achieve excellence in academic practice. If your current role includes regular teaching, supporting and guiding students, designing and marking assignments and contributing to course content, this is the ideal path to continuing professional development.
Our course is based on the areas of activity, core knowledge and professional values set out in the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF). You will work alongside colleagues delivering to higher education students in universities and colleges, focussing on your own professional context as you examine your relationship with your students and the learning community as a whole.
We will explore how the professional values of respecting each student as an individual, promoting participation in higher education, and the wider context impact upon your own area of work. The course will enable you to underpin your core knowledge of your own subject material with theoretical and best practice perspectives on learning theory, learning technologies and approaches to teaching. In addition, you will concentrate on the full range of activities your academic role encompasses, from planning learning activities and giving feedback, to contributing to your academic network and continuing your own career development.
- Research Excellence Framework 2014: twice as many of our staff - 220 - were entered into the research assessment for 2014 compared to the number entered in 2008

On completion of our course, you will be recognised professionally within the UKPSF as being able to look at your own academic practice with a critical eye, develop your practice to benefit your students, identify areas for development in your professional life and add to the knowledge of good academic practice for the future.
