Gender and Women's Studies

Course Description

The MA in Gender and Women’s Studies is a taught postgraduate degree which will deepen your perspectives on gender studies and feminism.

As a student on this programme you will gain a thorough knowledge of the key debates and authors within Gender and Women’s Studies as well as the opportunity to develop specialist interests and key research skills. Core modules will take you through the intellectual traditions, concepts and politics which have shaped the evolution of Women’s Studies inside and outside the academy, and will give you the methodological confidence to do your own research.

Compulsory modules:

• Independent Research Dissertation

• Feminist Media and Cultural Studies

• Gender and Violence

Tuition Fee waiver for Overseas MA students. Applicants applying for funding must hold an offer of a place on an eligable MA programme to start in October 2013. Full-time or part-time applicants are welcome to apply.

Faculty Fees Studentship 1+3 - Single Award

Completed funding application forms must be submitted on email to [email protected] by 13th May 2013. As part of this application candidates must submit a 2 page research proposal. Applicants interested in applying for this 1+3 funding are advised to contact potential supervisors for their 2014 PHD research project as soon as possible. Supervisors can offer advice on improving PhD proposals to make them competitive for the funding competition.

Home/EU students who hold an offer of a place on an MA for October 2013, and a PhD for 2014 are invited to apply for this fees-only studentship. Applications from part-time and full-time applicants are welcome.

An upper second class honours degree, or its equivalent, in Sociology or Gender and Women’s Studies (or related field).
