The MSc in Environmental Science and Technology is designed to provide training in the general field of environmental science and its associated technologies. The emphasis is on developing in depth understanding of environmental processes, how these processes are modified by humans, and how technology can be used to monitor and remediate particular ‘problems’. The course aims to exploit LEC’s considerable pedigree in environmental research and technology development/application to equip students for the specific and generic demands of proceeding directly into either employment or doctoral research in the environmental sector.
Modules on offer include: - Air Quality and Climate - Behaviour of Pollutants in the Environment - Catchment Protection (field course) - Chemical Risk Assessment - Contaminated Land and Remediation - Environmental Radioactivity - Environmental Sampling and Analysis for Trace Organics - Environmental Toxicology - Flood Forecasting and Flood Risk Management - Groundwater Resources and Protection
“The reputation of LEC was what attracted me at first and secondly was the thought of having practical and lab work alongside lecture modules. Interestingly, I was able to improve my writing and presentation skills and gain some training especially in GIS. I loved the team building session because it helped build my relationship with my classmates outside the lecture rooms. I have certainly gained a lot from LEC, not just the knowledge in the classroom but also the relationships, the advice and the career sessions. Staff were also very willing to assist whenever the need arose. Although at first it felt intensive and I felt bombarded with loads of work, it has helped me plan better, manage my time more effectively and be more proactive. I would certainly use the knowledge and experience gained here in the workplace after graduation and I look forward to studying for a PhD afterwards.”
