Course Description

Design: Product and Space & the Creative Economy MA

This MA is an intensive, collaborative masters course which combines the creativity of product and spatial design with the solid business know-how to get your ideas and innovations off the ground. It is suitable for both those currently employed in the field, and those would like to develop a career in product or spatial design.

What will you study?

You will hone your skills as a designer at the Faculty of Art and Design and Architecture, and you will learn how to collaborate and run a business at Kingston Business School. By the end of the course, you will be able to develop, market and pitch ideas.

This MA is cross-faculty, interdisciplinary, and extremely practical. You will learn to think in 3D, and analyse the current business and creative landscapes.


A mix of project work and formal assessments, including essays, case studies, reports and presentations, plus the final Personal Research Project (maximum 12,000 words).

Regular visits from industry experts and entrepreneurs, field trips to entrepreneurial businesses and events that connect the creative industry to the local community and give you a valuable network.

English language requirements

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirement, which is Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no element below 6.0. Make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements could be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from a recognised majority English speaking countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.

Student Profiles

Entry Requirements

Upper second class degree or above in a relevant area and/or two years' work experience in the creative industries; an exciting and creative portfolio; an understanding of the context of the creative economy; and the ability to explain why this course will be of value to them personally. We also carefully consider non-standard entrants with relevant personal and work experience who can demonstrate their interest, commitment and ability.
