An exploration of MFL teaching, learning and assessment practices in the light of policy changes, relevant research in the field and curriculum developments. The focus is on teachers as researchers critically reflecting on their own practice with the aims of defining what is effective as subject leaders of learning.

This programme forms part of our well established department's successful modular MA education programme. Rooted in practical experience, it emphasises the theoretical study of education. In this programme, we reflect on current modern foreign language provision and curricular innovations in the light of policy decisions as well as evaluating international research. Students read widely and collect data from language classrooms or other sources to analyse in collaboration with their peers, aimed at developing practitioner research expertise. The learning is highly interactive and takes place in an agreeable learning community.
- Course purpose -
We invite language teachers at all levels and those who organise language learning provision from all cultural contexts to participate in the rich intercultural and collaborative learning opportunities this MA offers. The main purpose is to provide opportunities for professionals involved in foreign language education to extend their knowledge through engagement with current research and developments in policy and practice, linking this to critical reflection on their practice.
- Course format and assessment -
In order to gain the MA Modern Foreign Languages Education, students must complete and pass four taught modules (30 credits each) and a dissertation (60 credits). There are no examinations - all modules are assessed by written work.
