MSc Services Innovation

Course Description

MSc Services Innovation will provide you with in-depth knowledge and experience in services innovation and core supporting areas such as business models, business analytics and digital strategies. You will develop the skills needed for the design and management of innovative business models, drawing on the latest research and industry-leading practice from the Aston Centre for Servitization Research and Practice.

You will develop a knowledge and understanding of services innovation, through the study of business model innovation, business analytics, management consultancy, digital strategy and gamification. Informed by industry needs and current research, this course blends specific knowledge in services innovation and a range of professional skills. Methods of teaching include lectures and seminars. Most seminars will focus on problem-based learning or “learning by doing”.

This programme then concludes with a final dissertation project.

Learning, teaching and assessment
You will be assessed through a mixture of examinations and coursework. The taught element of the programme is then complemented by a substantial piece of research leading to the completion of a dissertation.

Course director
Dr Angela Marqui
Angela is a Teaching Fellow at Aston Business School. She brings practical experience to her teaching and research, based on her experiences working for leading companies such as aircraft manufacturer Embraer and aggregates business Votorantim Cimentos, always delivering capability and services to the customer.

She spent four years as a lecturer on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at two business schools in Brazil, drawing on her experience in industry and her ongoing research as part of an agribusiness research group to teach business planning, marketing and strategic planning. She also achieved her EngD during this time, which focused on efforts to improve the efficiency and/or effectiveness of fruit and vegetables supply chains in order to fulfill demand.

Modules taught on this MSc will enable you to develop a wide range of technical and transferable skills demanded by graduate employers in addition to knowledge and understanding of service delivery and innovation.

You will have the opportunity to learn through case studies, industry guest speakers, projects with industry partners. There is also a strong link with the Aston Centre for Servitization research and Practice as most of the teaching staff is actively engaged with the centre activities.

Entry Requirements

One of the following: a good UK honours degree (minimum lower second class), equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University. As well as: two professional references, at least one must be from an academic referee, an official academic transcript of your university grades to date, a completed application form. For International Students: an official academic transcript, with an official English translation, of your university grades to date, students whose native language is not English will also need to satisfy our English language requirements. Pre-sessional English language programmes are available for good applicants whose English qualification falls short of these requirements.
