MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences

Course Description

This MSc programme is designed to provide specialist training and practical experience to graduates who are interested in following a career in the pharmaceutical industry, research institutes or related pharmaceutical authorities. This course is also an excellent foundation for graduates considering research degree programmes in the pharmaceutical sciences.

The main goal of this course is to offer a strong academic base for pharmacists, chemists and related life-sciences graduates who are keen to further develop their skill and knowledge in the pharmaceutical sciences field. This preparation will endow graduates with the ability to provide effective pharmaceutical formulation strategies for current and future drug therapies and medicinal products.

The course is based around a core of compulsory modules and combined with a research project undertaken in our postgraduate research laboratories. The research project will last approximately four months and students will work under the supervision of recognised experts within their given research field. The project provides an opportunity to undertake a detailed investigation and develop practical expertise in one of a range of specialist projects within the Pharmaceutical Sciences arena.
Aston University also offers strong collaborative links with various pharmaceutical companies and there may be the opportunity to undertake projects in collaboration with these companies.


The taught modular programme will consider various aspects of pharmaceutical sciences e.g. the biology of disease states, pharmaceutical analytical analysis, pharmaceutical formulation, research methods and exploiting your research. Modules:

Ferguson Foundation Scholarship - 7 Awards

The scholarships are available to students applying to on campus programmes offered in the School of Life & Health Sciences. The Ferguson Scholarships apply to the following programmes:MSc in Biomedical Sciences

MRes in Cognitive Neurosciences If successful, you will receive a scholarship of approximately £12,000 towards the cost of your MSc course fees. You will have to contribute £3,000 (approx) towards your MSc tuition fees.

The School of Life & Health Sciences is offering 7 scholarships to students from Africa and South America. Scholarships are supported by the Ferguson Foundation which is dedicated to improving educational opportunities for students who would not otherwise be able to consider study in the UK.

To be considered you must fulfill the following:Be a National from an African or South American country and submit a concise 1,000-1,500 word essay explaining how you and your home country will benefit from the skills and knowledge you will acquire in the MSc course you have applied for.

Entry Requirements

Prospective students must possess a good honours degree (minimum 2.2) in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmacology, Physiology, Physical Science, Biochemistry or any related field.

£6900 for UK/EU and £16,850 for International students
