MSc Engineering Management

Course Description

In today’s global business environment, engineers need to have both a range of technical and engineering skills and the skills to lead and manage effectively within the fast moving world of business. This MSc programme offered from within the School of Engineering and Applied Science is aimed at making today’s engineers the technical business leaders of tomorrow.

The School offers an active research environment, maintaining an emphasis on student and staff inclusion and a drive to innovate and engage with the economy and continue our strong links with industry. Many of the programme staff have had significant experience working in industry themselves, thus ensuring the course has firm foundations in the real world. Ongoing research ensures that the programme remains at the cutting edge of engineering and technology management.

This management-oriented MSc engineering programme, fully accredited by the Chartered Management Institute, is aimed at experienced graduates or non-degree professionally qualified candidates, who want to further their prospects by developing strategic expertise in their chosen career path. More recent graduates of an engineering or related discipline may also apply, although there will be restrictions on the selection of elected modules. The programme aims to develop the overall management skills of candidates into such areas as strategic finance, managing change, project management and strategic management. The emphasis of the MSc in Engineering Management is directed towards the engineering organisation, whilst its companion programme the MSc in Industrial Enterprise Management concentrates more on the commercial aspects of business in a world of rapidly changing technologies.

The programme offers the opportunity to work in groups to simulate management scenarios in the real world. The problems posed are relevant and often topical, allowing students to gain experience of developing strategic solutions to challenging problems. The programme leads graduates into technical management roles in a range of engineering and technology businesses. Those candidates aspiring to senior management positions will find that the programme provides a sound foundation for achieving that goal.

Qualifications from outside the UK will also be considered: the course administration office will advise as to whether these qualifications are the equivalent of the level of Honours degree required. International students whose native language is not English will also need to demonstrate English Language ability (e.g. IELTS 6.5, TOEFL score of 600 or equivalent).

Entry Requirements

Good Honours Degree in appropriate subject. Two years of work experience in an appropriate engineering post will be an advantage.

Course Fees
