MSc Finance

Course Description

A Master's degree in Finance provides you with broad expertise in the financial and economic aspects of business economics. You learn to understand and solve complex financial problems with which companies and institutions have to deal.

Choose Finance if you feel at home in a challenging, global and ever-changing environment and if you want to put your analytical expertise into practice.

As a student in Finance you acquire both academic and professional skills. You will learn to collect and analyse data; plan and design research projects and write academic texts. In addition you will develop professional skills such as giving public presentations, working in teams and building computer models for business decisions.

In this one-year Master's programme you can choose to focus on one of four labor market profiles: Corporate Finance, Investing, Banking and Finance & Development. You will complete the programme by writing a Master's thesis.

Why in Groningen?

Finance offers both an academic and a hands-on approach. There is a broad range of courses in corporate finance and asset management and you get the possibility to specialize in issues related to corporate valuation, and banking and risk management. Besides, it's an international accredited programme, ensuring a high quality education that according to the AACSB standard only 5% of universities worldwide meet.

Job perspectives

As a graduate of this Master's programme you are a specialist in finance. You can contribute to decision-making in all sorts of organizations: private (multinational) companies and financial institutions, consultancy firms, governmental institutions and (international) institutional organizations as the IMF or the World Bank. Because all our programmes are EQUIS and AACSB accredited, a standard which only 1% of universities reach worldwide, your degree will be highly valued on the labour market.

Linking education to research and career preparation

Our education is strongly rooted in business practice and society. Also right from the start of your degree programme attention is paid to academic research and preprofessional development. Since an analytical and critical mind and problem-solving capabilities are important qualities in any career our students aspire.

In collaboration with external partners we conduct research projects on e.g banking, local government, customer insights, leadership, energy, healthy ageing and lean operations.
