MSc Interpreting


Course Description

Overview

Our new MSc Interpreting programme is aimed at those who want to work as professional interpreters. The programme enables those looking to have a greater focus on developing their interpreting skills to take more dedicated interpreting courses.

Prorgramme Structure

Students take courses in Applied Professional Skills for Conference Interpreters, Liaison and Public Service Interpreting, Conference Interpreting, Liaison Interpreting for Business, and Translation & Interpreting Studies. A further three optional courses are also studied.

Guest speakers and mini-conferences are also an integral part of the learning on this programme.

Facilities

Students benefit from excellent facilities for interpreting and translating, including state-of-the-art interpreting and language laboratories, digital resources for interpreting, and a range of Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) software packages.

Entry Requirements

Strand A (1) Native / near-native command of English plus native / near-native command of French, German, or Spanish. (2) Good degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.Strand B (1) Native / near-native command of English plus an excellent command of two from French, German, Spanish, Arabic or Chinese. (2) Good degree or equivalent in a relevant subject. English language requirements - Non-native speakers of English must provide evidence of their English language ability. This must be IELTS 7.0, or equivalent, with at least 6.5 in all components.
