The School of Biosciences is ranked the no.1 research environment in the UK (for agriculture, veterinary and food science) in the 2014 REF (Research Excellence Framework). 97% of our work (in the Schools of Biosciences and Veterinary Medicine and Science ) was judged to be of international quality.

The school undertakes research and teaching in the fundamental and applied sciences. We work on diverse issues such as:

global food security

bioenergy

the environment and its protection

growth, development and reproduction of plants, animals and microbes

production and preservation of agricultural and food commodities

food quality, health, nutrition and safety

The school offers research degrees and taught postgraduate courses. Some of our degree programmes offer the opportunity to study at the University of Nottingham Malaysia.

The Schools of Biosciences and Veterinary Medicine are based on Sutton Bonington Campus. Specialist facilities include the world-leading teaching and research laboratories, clinical skills suite and food processing hall. There is also a University farm and dairy centre, and temperature controlled glasshouses.

There is a great sense of community, and the student union plays a big part in campus life. You will have access to student services, a library, sports centre and places to eat. You can travel to University Park Campus in around 25 minutes on our free hopper bus, and Nottingham city centre via the tram network.
