What’s it like to study a Masters in Liverpool?

Liverpool’s history and identity have been shaped by both technological and cultural success. During the Industrial Revolution the city was one of the busiest ports in the world and a centre of engineering innovation. Railway design and steam shipbuilding were pioneered in Liverpool and it remains famous as one of the first commercial railway terminals in the world and the port of registry for a number of historic ships.

Postgraduate students in Liverpool can enjoy a vibrant and unique city, shaped by a history of international trade, immigration and cultural exchange. Liverpool’s nightlife and music venues are some of the most famous in England – as befits the home city of the Beatles, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Elvis Costello.

Liverpool is also one of the most successful sporting cities in Europe: if football’s your thing, you’ll be able to visit the home of Liverpool FC or that of their near neighbours and rivals, Everton FC. If you’re not the sporting type, don’t worry: Liverpool’s other attractions include one of the UK’s largest shopping centres as well as a wide range of listed buildings and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Universities in Liverpool

The oldest university in Liverpool, the University of Liverpool, was founded in 1881 at the height of the city’s commercial and industrial success. It is now a world top 200 university, one of the highest ranked universities in the UK and a member of the Russell Group of leading UK universities.

Liverpool is also home to Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Hope University. Edge Hill University is situated 13 miles from the city, in the town of Ormskirk. All of these institutions offer a wide range of Masters programmes.
