Have you been working in a postgraduate marketing, recruitment or admissions role for less than 12 months? Are you looking to develop your skills and be inspired by new initiatives? Our ‘new postgraduate practitioners training conference’ could be the learning and development opportunity for you.

Delivered by FindAUniversity, this one-day conference is designed to offer those new to the postgraduate market a chance to build their knowledge, skills and confidence as well as the opportunity to network with colleagues in similar roles at other HE institutions.

Meet the speakers:

Penny Eccles

Director of Marketing and Communications, Nottingham Trent University

Penny is the Director of Marketing and Communications at Nottingham Trent University. Prior to this she directed the team at the University of Gloucestershire to win the THE Leadership & Management Awards for Outstanding Marketing and Communications Team 2017. A chartered marketer and Fellow of the CIM, Penny is a passionate advocate for social mobility.


Dr Mark Bennett

Head of Content, FindAUniversity

Dr Mark Bennett is Head of Content at FindAUniversity, with overall responsibility for the information, advice and guidance students find on our websites. He regularly engages with prospective students' funding queries and has presented on postgraduate funding, experiences and IAG at events organised by Westminster Forum, UKCGE and HELOA.


Jemma Davies

Postgraduate & International Marketing Manager, Birmingham City University

Jemma Davies has been working in education marketing for the last decade, working in specialist HE marketing agencies as well as one of the top 100 universities in the world, the University of Groningen.

She is currently the Postgraduate and International Marketing Manager at Birmingham City University, responsible for all areas of marketing and communications including events, CRM, campaigns, print and social media.


Paul Hodgson

Digital Communications Officer, The University of Nottingham

Paul 'Falcore' Hodgson is a digital content creator with a career in digital marketing and content spanning 8 years. He's a professionally trained filmmaker and has worked in a variety of sectors including retail and higher education.


Phil Etherington

Postgraduate Student Recruitment Officer, University of Reading

Phil has been a postgraduate Student Recruitment Officer at the University of Reading for the last four years. Working primarily on UK PGT recruitment, his focus has been on setting up a series of master’s open days. Having completed a PhD at King’s College London before working in student recruitment, he understands the academic world from both sides of the fence.


Anthony Hudson

Research Manager, University of East London

A social scientist by training and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) Tony is an experienced manager, teacher and researcher. Before returning to higher education he worked in the not for profit sector where he was General Secretary (Chief Executive) of a learned and professional society. He has taught on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes specialising in research methods at a number of post ’92 institutions. He also developed and taught on New Beginnings – UEL’s fast track HE access programme.

Since joining Continuum, the Centre for Widening Participation Policy Studies at UEL he has managed a diverse portfolio and undertaken a wide range of consultancy, research and evaluation projects at local, national and international level.

His current research interests include widening participation to postgraduate study and access pathways to higher education. His doctoral research focuses on the academic identity and learning careers of Access HE tutors.


Tom Pinder

Client Manager for Education, SMRS

Tom has been working in higher education for six years now and in that time has experienced a mix of working for institutions and agencies. Following stints in postgraduate student recruitment at Lancaster and Salford between 2014-2017 and a brief interlude working on degree fraud at Prospects, he now works as a client manager focusing on universities for SMRS, an education, employer, and youth marketing business with offices in Manchester and London.

As client manager Tom works directly with universities nationally, designing bespoke student recruitment solutions, providing unique insight and trend analysis into UK higher education, and working with industry partners to create vibrant and award-winning campaigns. In his spare time he continues to blog about all things HE and ardently follow Manchester United, no matter how bad they become.
