What’s it like to study a Masters in Vancouver?
Historically, Vancouver has been an important centre for forestry, but international trade and tourism have now become increasingly important to the local economy. It is also renowned as one of the most cosmopolitan and ethnically diverse cities in the world, with over half of its residents speaking a language other than English.

Universities in Vancouver
Founded in 1908, the University of British Columbia (UBC) is the largest university in Vancouver with around 60,000 students. UBC regularly ranks among the top 50 institutions in the world and is a publicly-funded research university.
Simon Fraser University is another public research university based in the region, with campuses in the nearby cities of Burnaby and Surrey as well as Vancouver itself.
In addition to these universities, you can also study a Masters in Vancouver at a range of other public and private higher education institutions. The Emily Carr University of Art and Design, for example, focuses on creative disciplines.
Careers in Vancouver
Vancouver has a robust, diverse economy with strengths in several sectors. It’s frequently known as ‘Hollywood North’, thanks to the many film and TV productions that take place in the city and the surrounding area. Vancouver is also the location of the largest port in Canada (and one of the busiest in North America).
Technology is also an important part of Vancouver’s economy, with plenty of major companies based in the city. These include Electronic Arts, Microsoft and Amazon, as well as innovative start-ups.
