About the advanced leaders course

This leadership course is about facilitating change in the delivery of diabetes care in local areas. It prepares Advanced Leaders to motivate other people, deliver high quality multi-disciplinary education and achieve service improvement by applying learning to the practical application of managing diabetes.

Advanced Leaders learn about their role and responsibilities in planning, organising and assessing the teaching of the CIDC/MDHCA/OGC courses in association with locally identified experts in diabetes and other relevant subjects.

The cost of this course is normally covered when a Distance Delivery programme is booked by a healthcare organisation

How does the course work?

Advanced Leaders attend a 1 - 2 day residential course at the University of Warwick. Two or more individuals from an area are trained together on the programme which can be adapted to suited specific organisations.

Advanced leaders will then receive a Honorary Contract with the University of Warwick and be provided with the title of Honorary Teaching Fellow in Education and Development.

This module allows you to gain a clear understanding of assessment and evaluation, and how you can put theory into practice.

Module content

Building on earlier learning about curriculum theory and design, you will develop your understanding of the testing of learning outcomes and objectives, in order to determine if learners have achieved mastery.

The module will explore current methods and directions in assessment of learning in medicine, both formative and summative. Basic assessment theory will be explored, particularly in relation to concepts of validity, reliability and generalisability with particular emphasis on the application to clinical settings. This MA meets international and national quality benchmarks and is suitable for you if you have either a personal or professional interest in career development/coaching. We offer the MA full-time, or you can choose to complete the programme part-time at different levels.

You’ll be encouraged to directly connect your learning to your personal and continuing professional development. Each module on the course is taught through a mix of workshopbased (usually two days) and distance learning. You can choose from two to six workshops a year, depending on your preferred study route.

While our academic admissions criteria ask for a 2:ii undergraduate degree, we would welcome and encourage you to apply if you have alternative qualifications or experience. The skills you develop on the course will support current or future employment in career coaching and talent management, among other vocational roles.

Areas of Study

There are two pathways available for both full and part-time students within the MA in Career Development and Coaching Studies: Route A and Route B. It is not necessary to finalise preferred route at the time of application as this can be confirmed later.

Dissertation students are allocated a dissertation supervisor. Supervision is provided to assist you with undertaking an initial literature review, constructing research questions and designing a methodology. There is considerable experience available within the course team and most topics connected with higher education careers work can be pursued.
