University of Trento, Center for Mind/Brain Science - CIMeC Masters Degrees

We have 1 University of Trento, Center for Mind/Brain Science - CIMeC Masters Degrees

The CIMeC (Center for Mind/Brain Sciences; Centro Interdipartimentale Mente/Cervello) is an interdisciplinary research and teaching center of the University of Trento. It emphasizes strength in Research, Formation, Instrumentation and dissemination of knowledge within the local community.

The Center, directed by Prof. Carlo Miniussi, draws on faculty from several departments, including Psychology and Cognitive Science, Humanities and Philosophy Physics, Mathematics, and Information Engineering and Computer Science. Its faculty originates from Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, USA, Canada, Argentina, Israel and beyond.

The CIMeC has been recently ranked as the leading Cognitive Neuroscience research unit in Italy. As of 2013, its faculty have won several highly competitive grants on the international and national levels, including 1 European Research Council (ERC) advanced grant, 5 ERC starting grants, other European Framework grants and highly competitive grants awarded by the local province. The center is responsible for a Master’s and Ph.D. program and enjoys success in placement of graduates of both programs. This is due to a strong emphasis on empirical work throughout the student’s formation stages.

CIMeC’s researchers study brain organization via the analysis of its functional, structural and physiological characteristics, in both normal and pathological conditions. Top-of the line instrumentation includes functional neuroimaging, MEG, EEG, NIRS, TMS and eye tracking solutions, as well as systems for studying kinematics. In addition, the Center for Neurocognitive Rehabilitation (CERiN) specializes in the study of clinical cases. The CIMeC enjoys close collaborations with the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK), the Edmund Mach Foundation, and the Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems (Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, IIT). CIMeC researchers are strongly embedded in the local community, presenting ongoing work as well as background lectures in diverse occasions throughout the year.

The CIMeC is organized in five formal structures that manage developmental, animal, behavioral, neuroimaging and computational modeling work. The Neuroimaging facilities are located near Trento, whereas teaching and experimental labs are located in Rovereto (30 km south of Trento).

For anyone interested in visiting, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are located at the foot of the Trentino dolomites, a UNESCO world heritage site, and we welcome formal and informal collaboration opportunities.
