We have 8 University of Portsmouth, School of the Environment, Geography and Geosciences Masters Degrees
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES) is based in Burnaby Building, within the main University
campus. The building also houses lecture theatres, teaching laboratories and the School’s research laboratories.
The School is strongly committed to active and developing research programmes in a wide range of subjects within
the earth and environmental science areas. We have very active and internationally recognised research groups in
crustal evolution, environmental modelling and monitoring, geohazard assessment, marine biogeochemistry and
ecosystems, and palaeontology and sedimentology.
In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), our submission to the Earth Systems and Environmental Science
Unit of Assessment (UoA) comprised ten researchers in SEES and four from the School of Biological Sciences. We
are proud that approximately 90 per cent of our research in this category was deemed to be of ‘international standard’,
with evidence of ‘world-leading research’ in both areas.
