The programme of study will equip you with an excellent working knowledge of the commercial property market, including its relevance to national and international financial and investment markets.
This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to develop a successful career in the corporate property industry. You will become professionally competent in applying advanced investment and appraisal techniques, and learn how to make sound property management decisions that take into account legal, economic, facilities management and planning variables.
Studying this course will equip you with knowledge and expertise in the valuation and management of urban land and buildings in both public and private ownership. There is also a focus on IT and its application to the property industry, as well as the environmental considerations of real estate development and management.
The full Masters award is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), allowing exemption from their academic entry requirements, as well as ensuring that you will be educated to the highest industry standards.

This course can be studied full-time on campus or part-time by distance learning. Admission onto the course is in September or January.
The Masters award consists of four taught modules followed by a dissertation. The PgDip requires the completion of the four taught modules and the Pg Cert requires the completion of two taught modules. All modules are delivered over a 15 week period within one semester and are assessed through coursework, there are no exams.
FOR THE FULL-TIME STUDY OPTION:
You will study two 30 credit taught modules in each of your first two semesters on campus, these are designed to give you the core knowledge required for real estate and property management. In the final semester you will undertake a dissertation worth 60 credits.
DISTANCE LEARNING STUDY OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE IN FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME MODES:
For students who study distance learning at full-time mode, two 30 credit taught modules are studied per semester. You will undertake a dissertation worth 60 credits at the final semester.
For the students who study distance learning at part-time mode, one 30 credit taught module is studied per semester. You will undertake a dissertation worth 60 credits at the final two semesters.
Assessment of these modules is driven by real-world issues aligned to your workplace and job role. Teaching is based around a virtual learning environment supported by interactive online sessions. The dissertation module is also delivered online and incorporates extensive tutor engagement and support.
On-campus study comprises lectures, tutorials and project work.
Lectures introduce the core knowledge for each module. Tutorials provide a forum for discussion and debate with personalised instruction from tutors and project work is your chance to use research and other techniques to develop solutions to prescribed tasks. Throughout the course, experts from various fields are invited to deliver guest lectures and field trips are organised to give you an insight into the workings of the industry.
If you’re studying via distance learning, you’ll enjoy access to an internet-based learning environment backed up by intensive tutor support. Weekly online tutorials are led by tutors and encourage student interaction. Our online repository of learning material enables you to undertake self-directed study at your own convenience. Learning is driven by real-world problems with application to your workplace and job role.
You will be assessed through written coursework (100%) and continuous informal assessment by your tutors.

There are also many opportunities in the institutional and corporate sectors with organisations such as insurance companies, pension funds, property companies, multiple retailers and other major trading companies. Some local authorities and central government departments also maintain an 'in-house' team of property professionals.
This programme accepts graduates from any discipline to convert and become full RICS accredited in Land Economy and Rural Surveying.
