This master’s programme features three keywords: strategy, management and international. The two-year master’s programme in Business Administration Organisations (SMIO) focuses on topics in the discipline of Business Administration.

The programme’s overall purpose is to contribute to the education of a new generation of researchers and practitioners, who understand science and business as social phenomena.

After successfully completing the programme, students will be qualified to work with international companies and organisations due to having acquired good analytical skills and ability to think strategically.

This is a four semester programme and the fourth semester will be spent writing a master’s thesis.
Courses

Semester 1. An introduction to academic studies is followed by a course in Leadership and organisation. This course will take on the exploration/exploitation dilemma and explore it through the lenses of Leadership and Organisation. The second course, Contemporary Business Processes will introduce, develop, and strengthen your understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing businesses. Students also study Project Management in International Settings as projects constitute a major tool and organisational form for implementing and achieving the strategic goals of an organisation.

Semester 2. Advanced Consumer Marketing takes an integrative, advanced approach to consumer marketing. The course in Management Control Systems focuses on different methods for managing and providing information support for private and public organisations, while the third course, Perspectives on Human Resource Management (HRM) focuses on four different perspectives: HRM in project-based organisations, HRM in public and non-profit organisations, International HRM, and HRM as a trend in society.

Semester 3. Strategy - Classic and Contemporary Views is rooted in international business and corporate strategies. This course looks at different aspects of strategy and strategic issues. Project, People and Processes has two main components. The first part is a theoretical introduction and the second part focuses on the company as a knowledge-producing entity, and other related organisational structures and control mechanisms.

Semester 4. The Master’s thesis will, in combination with research methodology, further develop students’ knowledge and skills, and enhance the ability to solve problems independently and in a scholarly manner. The choice of subject and method will indicate that students have taken an international approach. The master’s theses are to be written in teams of two.

Admission requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree

in any field of studies with at least 30 ECTS in Business Administration.

We also accept candidates with a bachelor degree in any field of studies and no or little background in Business Administration. Such candidates should show extraordinary talent and outstanding achievements in areas like academia, work experience, culture, sports and societal contribution.

Admitted applicants with a bachelor degree in subjects other than Business Administration or Economics are required to complete a specific one week pre-program at SSE prior to their studies (in August). The pre-program is designed to give students key foundations in Business Administration.

2. GMAT or GRE test result

- GMAT (total score) of 600 or more

- GRE score (quantitative) of 155 or more​

3. Proof of proficiency in English

We accept the following options as proof of your proficiency in English:

- IELTS Academic score at least 7 

- TOEFL iBT total score at least 100

The Quality management profile provides knowledge on approaches for creating and sustaining an effective organisation. The MSc in Accounting and Financial Management is designed to prepare students for careers such as financial analyst, business controller, chief financial officer (CFO), investment banker, consultant and auditor.

As a graduate from our program you will have a deep understanding of how financial and non-financial controls can be integrated and used for steering purposes in multinational companies, how large companies report to external share- and stakeholders and how those evaluate the financial and non-financial performance of companies in for example valuation settings. For the 2017 intake, we have redesigned the program to be even more competitive and attractive to students and employers.

Key topics include financial reporting principles, business control, capital budgeting, financial analysis and corporate valuation. In all our courses we take an analytical and international perspective. For example, in the financial reporting core courses we focus on the main concepts and principles that lie behind most international accounting standards such as IFRS. Consequently, the insights you get in the program remain valuable also when concrete financial standards change. We see accounting as a language you need to understand in order to properly analyze and understand a business corporation.

As a top level program with relatively low number of students, we can offer an intimate and creative learning environment. Our faculty (all active researchers) is engaged in pedagogical development and intrigued by the learning journey of our students.
