We've been helping students find the right postgraduate course for over a decade.
The School of Mathematics warmly welcomes applications for postgraduate study. We take pride in the calibre of our staff, in the breadth of our postgraduate programmes, and in the successes of our postgraduates as they develop their careers within a stimulating and supportive academic environment.
The School comprises four departments: Applied Mathematucs, Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Financial Mathematics. Together they form one of the largest research school of mathematicians in the UK, with around 73 academic staff, 72 research PhD students and 32 taught MSc students. The Mathematics building lies at the centre of one of the UK's major university campuses, where we work together in developing the healthy, interactive research atmosphere which feeds and influences our undergraduate and MSc teaching programmes.
The School of Mathematics has a strong research track record – we were placed in the top ten mathematics departments in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) for research power, a measure which combines both the quality and volume of research, helping the University of Leeds to 14th place for research quality. In fact, 95% of the work submitted by the School in the RAE was classed as ‘world leading' or ‘internationally recognised'.
