Why study a Masters in Opera?

## If you want to gain an understanding of the musical performance industries, improve your vocal skills and develop your professional experience, a Masters in Opera is ideal for you. Though most courses offer a combination of vocational and analytical study, it is possible to undertake a completely theoretical or practise-based degree. You will be provided with high level vocal training, often collaborating with other performers such as musicians to devise performance projects. Some courses may also offer a placement in industry. Often interdisciplinary in nature, you will explore concepts from a range of backgrounds including musicology, dramaturgy and cultural studies. You will analyse both historical and contemporary Opera performance in relation to sociocultural and sociohistorical contexts. As well as traditional performance, your experience would also make you suitable for professional Opera teaching, stage management and theatre production.
