Course Description

Our MSc Management degrees are aimed at students with either no background in business and management who want to develop a career in this field, or students who have a qualification in business and management but want to become more competitive and progress their careers.

Our MSc Management and Global Supply Chain Management route is designed to prepare you for a career in global supply chain management. It begins by exploring the management of operations at a strategic level, before developing your understanding of the global supply chain and how organisations within it perform in relation to one another.

You will also undertake analysis with realistic data, tackling the type of questions you might face in an operations or global supply chain environment and building valuable practical skills.

See the website https://www.ntu.ac.uk/study-and-courses/courses/find-your-course/business/pg/2017-18/management-and-global-supply-chain-management

Work placement

You can add a year's work placement, making your master's a two-year course. If you undertake a placement, you must take up the Business Research Project in Semester Three.

Our partnership with the CMI means that on successful completion of this course you will receive the MSc Management and Global Supply Chain Management and the CMI Level 7 Diploma in Management and Leadership.

Study and support

Teaching and learning methods are centred around interactive workshops which are highly participative in nature and will employ case studies, discussions, business simulations and group activities.

Interactivity is key to our teaching and we are committed to providing courses that adopt teaching methods that are appropriate to the student cohort and the specific modules.

We ensure that support and guidance is in place, especially during the early stages of the course and assessment periods, to help you become comfortable with operating in a student-centred learning environment.

Assessment methods

A range of assessment methods are used across the course, the choice of which reflects the needs and demands of the different types of module. Some modules will assess the ability to work collaboratively in a team and others will assess individual capability. Types of assessment will range from examinations to group presentations including essays, reports, financial analyses, literature reviews and research-based projects.

The interactive nature of the taught sessions offers opportunities to gain feedback on your performance before being formally assessed and increasing use is made of eLearning to further support the feedback process.

Induction

All our courses begin with a comprehensive development programme that will help you prepare for your studies and develop key academic and transferable skills. A key feature is a short residential team-building course, normally in the Peak District.
You will also have opportunities to meet members of the teaching team and other postgraduate students, receive detailed programme information, and gain valuable support and guidance from the library, careers service, international office and Student Support Services.

Work placement

You can choose to add a year's work placement, making your master's a two-year course. It's a great way to put your learning into practice and gain valuable real-world experience to boost your career.

We have extensive links with corporate partners who can offer placements, so we can help you find something perfect. If you undertake a placement, you must take up the Business Research Project in Semester Three.

Organizations of all sizes and in all sectors are increasingly dependent on computer-based Information Systems to drive day-to-day operations. The intelligent and creative use of IT also enables innovation in both products and services, and can underpin the achievement of competitive advantage.

This course combines the study of Information Systems with Operations Management, emphasising the creative potential of information technology for innovation and change. It provides a thorough grounding in the principles and practice of information systems.

Students will also be educated in the key operations management challenges in contemporary organisations, including the challenges in supply chain management.

The course provides progressive learning towards the frontiers of knowledge in both Information Systems and Operations management. The structure of the programme allows students to focus on advanced developments in the areas that meet their specific interests and career aspirations. In addition to the taught modules, the course requires a major individual project, undertaken over the Summer term. The project integrates knowledge, methods and practical skills, and is often undertaken with an outside organization. It emphasizes leading edge thinking in theory and practice and develops skills in research, project management and report writing.

The course is suitable for you if you want to pursue a career in Information Systems and/or Operations Management, whether or not you have a first degree in a closely related area. We welcome applications from graduates in business and management, engineering, computer science, and social science disciplines such as psychology.
