Degree: MSc in Economics and Business Administration
ECTS credits: 120
Duration: two years

The programme will give you the skills to analyse markets and industries and the economic challenges facing private business, public institutions and the development in countries and regions. It will provide you with important perspectives for understanding an increasingly globalised economy.

Understanding economic mechanisms is vital for the success of business and the design of public policy and this master’s programme offers a thorough and comprehensive education in economic theory and econometrics. You will be equipped to analyse core economic questions such as: What are the effects of the financial crisis? Why are some mergers not profitable? Is taxing wealth a good idea? How fast should oil resources be exploited?

You will learn what motivates and drives decisions for individuals, companies, competitors and authorities - and what determines prices, returns and economic conditions.

SPECIALIST AREAS

The programme provides students with basic analytical skills in macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics.

Macroeconomics: covers areas such as business cycles, inflation and economic growth in a national and global perspective, including monetary and fiscal policy. Microeconomics: focuses on consumer behaviour and strategic interaction between companies in markets with imperfect competition and on how information and uncertainty affect decision-making. Econometrics: applies statistical methods to economic data in order to analyse economic themes with a focus on regression analysis and extensive use of practical lab exercises.

The programme also offers also a range of courses that allow you to focus on subject areas you find particularly interesting, such as:
Behavioural Economics
Industrial Economics
Development Economics
Labour Economics
Resource and Environmental Economics

Research Distinction
In addition we offer methodological courses at advanced level for students who want to elaborate their analytical skills. The advanced courses will qualify for a master's with "Research Distinction". Students who are planning to pursue a PhD are encouraged to select at least two advanced courses.

NHH is one of few business schools in the world where you can specialise in business within the energy sector and graduates from this master’s programme are in great demand. This programme aims to educate the next generation of interdisciplinary managers in the fields of energy and natural resource development.
Future development and prosperity depends largely on access to energy sources and secure, reliable supplies of natural resources. Exploitation of these resources has a significant impact on the environment and getting the balance right is a critical factor in the commercial world where business sustainability is increasingly defined by factors going beyond the bottom line.
Whether your goal is to shape public policy, become a resource economist, work for a big energy corporation, or pursue a career in commodity trading and financial products, the programme provides you with an excellent basis for a future career that encompasses crucial and relevant issues to modern society.

SPECIALIST AREAS

The programme broadly focuses on four main subject areas:

Economic fundamentals of energy and natural resource value chains
Business/government interactions in commercial energy and natural resource development
Strategic responses to more competitive energy and natural resource markets
Environmental impact of business and government decisions
Its flexibility allows you to choose specialist courses that meet your individual interests and need.
