Munich’s many universities include the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), which dates its origin to 1472. LMU is one of the oldest universities in Germany and is usually ranked as a global top 100 institution.

Established in 1868, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) specialises in scientific subjects and has a well-earned reputation for entrepreneurialism – its students are responsible for many start-ups and patents each year.

There are also several other prestigious universities offering Masters programmes in Munich, along with a range of specialist research centres including a number of institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science.
