Delivered by a consortium of ten universities and institutes, this full- or part-time programme will give you access to more than 90% of the UK’s nuclear teaching expertise.

For the MSc you’ll be asked to choose four core modules and four elective modules, and to complete a project and dissertation to the value of 180 credits.

We’ve grouped the modules in streams to accommodate students’ different interests. To complete each will take approximately 150 hours of work, including one week’s direct teaching.

It’s also possible to qualify for a Diploma (120 credits) by completing the four core modules plus four elective modules; or a Certificate (60 credits) by completig the four core modules.

This one-year full-time taught MSc programme (or up to six years part-time) will equip you for a career in any industry involving radiation and radiation detectors.

We cover basic radiation principles, the use of detection systems and associated instrumentation applications, and modelling. There’s a strong focus on practicals and laboratory-based techniques.

You’ll be able to carry out a project, often in industry, making you even more employable in sectors such as nuclear power, medicine, environmental protection, oil and mining, and health and safety.

The programme consists of a number of one-week modules which you can select to best meet your needs. These modules are organised into four groups:-

Foundation
Basic
Applied
Project and Dissertation.

For your MSc you must complete your chosen modules and one major project to a value of 180 credits. Diploma (120 credits) and Certificate (60 credits) may also be available if you don’t want to submit a dissertation.

You can study this Mathematical Sciences MSc programme full-time or part-time. It offers students the opportunity to specialise in a broad range of areas across pure and applied mathematics, statistics and probability, and theoretical physics.

The topics we cover include:

By completing the first semester you qualify for the PG certificate. By completing the second, you qualify for the PG Diploma. Then, by completing your dissertation, you qualify for the MSc.

With these you can tailor your programme to specialise in one of these areas, or gain a broad understanding of several. Career prospects

The excellent University Careers Service is open to all postgraduates. Graduates of the MSc and PhD programmes move on to many different careers. Recent graduates have moved into fast track teacher programmes, jobs in finance (actuarial, banking, insurance), software development, drugs testing and defence work, as well as University postdoctoral or lecturing posts. The MSc programme is of course a natural route into doctoral study in Mathematics and related fields, both at Liverpool and elsewhere. Some of our PhD students move on to postdoctoral positions and to academic teaching jobs and jobs in research institutes, both in the UK and elsewhere.
