You will gain a strong background in the theory of analytical techniques used in pharmaceutical science and how to apply them to complex problems in an industrially relevant context. You can choose to combine your studies with training in the fundamentals of management theory.

The Pharmaceutical Analysis MSc (ie not including Management Studies) provides exemption from Part A of the Mastership in Chemical Analysis, which is the statutory qualification for a public analyst.

What will you study?

You will gain key skills in the specialised area of pharmaceutical analysis, including good measurement and scientific practice, evaluation interpretation of data, and other professional and organisational skills. In addition to studying core analytical techniques and their applications, you will be introduced to various pharmaceutical technologies, for example, formulations and topics such as clinical pharmacokinetics.

You may be offered a placement within industry (depending on your results and project availability) where you will carry out your independent research project.

The Management Studies option enables you to explore the fundamentals of management theory within the commercial and public sectors.

Assessment

Exams, laboratory reports, assignments, case studies, oral presentations, poster presentations, research project.

Work placement scheme

Kingston University has set up a scheme that allows postgraduate students in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing to include a work placement element in their course starting from September 2017. The placement scheme is available for both international and home/EU students.

-The work placement, up to 12 months; is optional.

The course offers you the opportunity to enhance the skills of critical enquiry and gain an appreciation of the underlying theory, research and policy guiding current rehabilitation practice.

Suitable for all practitioners working in health and social care like nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and speech and language therapists. Previous cohorts have included an interdisciplinary mix of practitioners working in both general and specialist areas of rehabilitation in community, intermediate care, acute, independent sector and local authorities, both in the UK and overseas.

Students can study the full MSc or can opt to study individual modules.

Radiography exists in a changing professional environment and requires practitioners to continually update and review clinical practice. This course provides a flexible framework to prepare you for advanced practice by studying topics relevant to your needs and those of your clinical departments.

This route, which is one of four radiography pathways, is aimed at therapeutic radiographers. The course is offered as either a part-time block release course or as a full-time course.

You may be granted credits for your previous academic and professional qualification through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) scheme. You can take individual modules as 'free standing' as part of your continuing professional development (CPD). An independent work-based learning module enables you to study around your individual CPD and workplace needs.

This Overseas Pharmacists Assessment Programme (OSPAP) is a conversion programme designed to enable non-EU-qualified pharmacists to receive theoretical and practical training in key topics relevant to practice in the UK. It aims to familiarise overseas-trained pharmacists (non-EU and not covered by Directive 2005/36/EC) with the practice of pharmacy in the UK. The course is fully accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Kingston is long established as a top teaching university with excellent facilities. We have excellent links with a number of hospitals, including St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Kingston Hospital, the Royal Marsden Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham, as well as a number of major community pharmacies, enabling you to experience the role of the pharmacist first-hand through visits or placements.

What will you study?

You will receive training in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy, pharmacy practice, and pharmacy law and practice. Successful graduates will be eligible to apply for a one-year pre-registration period in an approved pharmaceutical establishment, prior to taking membership examinations from the pharmacy regulator (the General Pharmaceutical Council) and gaining entry onto the UK register of pharmacists.
