Course Overview

This course is for graduates in Physics or related physical science subjects, with an aspiration to become senior managers in global companies or entrepreneurs, where understanding technology and the ability to manage innovation in business are key to success. It combines a core set of Business Management modules with a selected range of optional Physics modules, allowing the programme to be tailored to suit individual requirements. A unique feature of the programme is that the Physics and Business Management elements are integrated and not studied in isolation of each other. A large research project forms the capstone for the programme bringing together the business and scientific elements to solve a business-specified problem.

Course Content

The course is delivered using a mixture of learning and teaching styles. Problem based learning and project work allow you to gain hands-on experience, investigating and applying topics from your lectures and seminars to real-life situations. You will also have access to specialist laboratories which are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The research project will be carried out in conjunction with industry and will bring together both business and scientific elements to solve a business-specified problem.

You will gain the most up to date knowledge from academic staff working at the forefront of science and business, carrying out internationally excellent research at the leading edge of their subject area. As part of our strong focus on action learning, you will make use of a purpose-built business simulation suite, which mimics facilities used to train the emergency services. Indicative Core Modules

Corporate Strategy
Develop a strategic organisational perspective as well as a basis for progression and application of strategic level skills, competencies, and decision-making capability.

Project Management
You will learn to apply and use project management tools and techniques, including relevant software, and will develop transferable employability project skills. Students will learn to deliver projects on time, on budget and to the right standard.

Entrepreneurship
This module explores a range of entrepreneurship theories and practices and involves an in-depth critical examination of business start-ups, the experiences of entrepreneurs and key aspects of small business management.

Dissertation
You will carry out an in-depth research project in a subject area that is appropriate to the course and of particular interest to you.

Consultancy Project
As an alternative to your dissertation, you could be selected to apply your learning to a real organisational issue of strategic level across any relevant business and management disciplines.

Our MSc Business Analytics and Decision Sciences is taught by internationally recognised academics and business practitioners from our Centre for Decision Research.
