This course is designed to give graduates a systematic training in the application of modern scientific methods in archaeology. It provides the necessary practical, analytical and interpretative skills to apply a wide range of specialist approaches in archaeology. It aims to prepare students not only for research in archaeological science, but also to further career prospects in all areas of mainstream archaeology. Students normally follow one of three pathways.
-Environmental Archaeology focuses on subsistence and health through studies of animal bones, plant remains and biomarkers in human and non-human hard tissue. It also introduces environmental issues which impact on human beings, including environmental change.
-Landscape Archaeology focuses on understanding and interpreting landscapes in the past using scientific methods.
-Biomolecular Archaeology allows students to specialise in the use of biomolecular methods to study both human remains and artefacts.

The pathways are intended to guide students through appropriate modules; they are indicative rather than prescriptive and students may choose to take the optional modules offered in any combination, subject to timetabling.

Biomedical Sciences involves a multidisciplinary approach to the study of human health and disease. This range of biological and molecular sciences underpins the scientific basis of investigating the human body in health and disease, enabling diagnosis and therapeutic intervention.

There is a demand for graduates with advanced biomedical training able to apply their skills to research, education, regulatory approval, diagnostic services and the commercialisation of biomedical information.

Our course is designed to allow students to specialise in one key area of human disease from: Cancer Biology, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Cell Biology or Medical Microbiology.

Overall, the course will equip graduating students for careers in the private (e.g. pharmaceutical, biotechnology or food industry, forensic/veterinary laboratories) or public (e.g. academia, National Health Service (NHS)) sectors.

Professional Accreditation

The course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). However, completion of this programme does not automatically qualify graduates to become registered biomedical scientists. In the UK this is now a legally protected title for individuals who are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). HCPC registration requires completion of an approved academic programme plus a period of training in an approved laboratory to develop appropriate practical skills and ensure competence. However, it is anticipated that the programme will be acceptable in partial fulfilment for award of the title of Chartered Scientist.

This is an exciting time to be involved in cancer therapeutics. Based upon a greater understanding of the molecular aspects of cancer, new opportunities for therapeutic intervention have emerged that are effectively 'target orientated'. These new therapeutics are quite distinct from the classical chemotherapeutic agents and they offer the prospect of truly selective cancer therapies that are tailored towards the individual patient's tumour. Cancer pharmacology plays a key role in drug development. In both the laboratory and the clinic, cancer pharmacology has had to adapt to the changing face of drug development by establishing experimental models and target orientated approaches.

The programme is designed to provide you with a 'state-of-the-art' course in modern cancer pharmacology that meets the demand of employers and provides an expert view of the available cancer medicines and the development of new cancer therapies.

It promotes advanced scholarship within specialised areas at the same time as the development of key transferable skills (in IT, communication, and time management) and research techniques. The taught component of the course provides the in depth knowledge and skills necessary to work in cancer research, and is delivered across 2 semesters through lectures, workshops, practicals and 1-to-1 tutorials with ICT staff. The MSc in European and International Business Management, often referred to as the European Management Programme or EMP, is designed for students who wish to develop a truly international perspective on management, by sharing the experience of living and studying in three different European countries.

We offer the European Management Programme as part of our partnership with two other centres of excellence the Universidad de Deusto — Deusto Business School, Bilbao and AUDENCIA, Nantes, Ecole de Management in France. The course takes place in three countries, in three prestigious European institutions, and is taught in three languages: Spanish, French and English.

You spend your first term in Spain or France, your second in France or Spain, and your third at the School of Management in Bradford, UK. The course includes some language tuition, but you must be competent in at least two of the three languages used and have the ability to become proficient in the third. You spend the final 12 weeks of the course on work placement or writing a report.

Learning activities and assessment

Teaching on the full-time programme involves a combination of formal lectures, group discussions, tutorials, seminars and directed reading. Generally the programme aims to integrate applied and theoretical knowledge with assessment processes that test both knowledge of the disciplines plus their application and limitations. Each module represents approximately 100 hours of study time, of which typically 24 hours is contact time with the module tutor(s) and the remaining 76 hours is made up of pre-reading, directed reading, preparatory work and assessment.
