Epic Games Centre

Epic Games and Staffordshire University have entered a dynamic partnership to help bring game developers, the university and students closer together. At the heart of the project is the Epic Games Centre, a fully equipped space designed to nurture future industry developers studying on the university’s game design courses.

The MA/MSc 3D Stereoscopic Media cuts through much of the hype and media glamour associated with 3D Stereoscopic to provide you with a grounded and deep exploration of the area. Working with industry professionals and specialist S3D technology and platform providers, the course encourages the examination of all sides of the Stereoscopic 3D story. This includes an examination of the perceptual science and human vision theory as well capture and display technologies looking at the biology, psychology and the technologies behind the current wave of innovation.

You will combine forces with students from a wide variety of creative and technical backgrounds through a series of collaborative projects to design and build rich 3D content, applying a core understanding of the nature of stereo perception in 3D output. Content will be repurposed for multiple platforms, from point-of-sale lenticular screens, 3D mobile devices, to 3D cinema, exploring how narrative and storytelling can be enhanced through stereoscopic production and delivery.

The digital production and post-production tools will enable you to deliver 3D projects through a full professional stereo pipeline, from capture to delivery. This course will share some technical delivery with the MA/MSc Broadcast Futures pathway, encouraging a collaboration of ideas to exploit these exciting new technologies.

The course covers the history of Stereoscopic 3D through to the roles played by modern content and technology companies. You will engage with production processes and workflows for multiple platforms including specialist content management, production and post-production techniques.

You will acquire the research and development skills in the Research Process unit needed for building your understanding of stereoscopic media.

Within the Technology Issues unit, you will engage with three project cycles that allows you to explore emerging 3D technology first as a discipline group, then in collaboration with another discipline, and finally in an individual project, often in collaboration with industry, for example through a live brief, or using high end donated equipment.

In the Business and Innovation unit, you will develop an understanding of business and innovative practices in the creative industries to bring an entrepreneurial perspective.

The Major Project represents the culmination of your investigation and the final stage of the research strategy when you will conduct a 15-week project to build a prototype, test an emerging technology or generate a concept. This is a substantial piece of self-managed work that embodies the integration of theory and practice and is underpinned by advanced practice-based methodologies and processes.

The international community and the EU in particular, have been calling for improvement in the process of delivering aid aiming at enhancing the ability of aid organisations to react efficiently and effectively to the increased occurrence of disasters. The significance of disasters is increasing due to variables such as population growth, climate change, urbanisation and global connectivity. The impact of natural disasters such as the Tsunami on the Far East and Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans is still being felt in those regions. Human initiated disasters such as the Twin Towers collapse and the Madrid and London bombings have had an enormous impact on security systems and world travel. Biologically based disasters such as SARS and bird flu similarly have had worldwide impact.

The MSc in Humanitarian Logistics and Emergency Management is a unique programme and is the first in the world to combine the academic disciplines of humanitarian logistics and emergency management. The programme builds on the established strengths and reputation of Ireland and in particular Irish Aid, in delivering humanitarian assistance to those in need.

The organizations providing the first phase of disaster response need the capacity and capabilities to deliver goods and services quickly to those impacted by an event. This is often under difficult circumstances in foreign locations and across cultures. The organisations involved in delivering the aid also need to be responsive in order to quickly provide resources required for the basic necessities of survival in the critical period immediately after an event in order to reduce further loss of life. This programme is a multi-disciplinary programme that provides high quality academic education and professional competencies for personnel working in or intending to work in the area of humanitarian relief to deal with the matters outlined. The programme will provide humanitarian professionals with the competences to work effectively and efficiently in challenging environments.

The programme aims to contribute to the development needs of future managers and employees in public, private sector organizations and nongovernmental organisations. •I would like to express how much I have really enjoyed this programme. The programme has shown me that education at this level does not have to be boring and all theory but can be challenging, interactive and entertaining.

•The lectures are interesting because we are encouraged to engage in discussion on the topics being covered. I think the slides are very well presented and easy to understand and there’s a good balance between media content and discussion. Reading content in relation to lecture is posted on Moodle in advance and this gives me every opportunity to prepare for lecture.

•Completing the UN service mindset training for logisticians and receiving the certificates for same as part of the programme is an excellent initiative.

Clinical psychology focuses on the challenges faced by people with clinical, mental or physical (neuropsychological) health conditions. The role of the clinical psychologist is to work with these individuals and attempt to improve their quality of life. The Master’s degree in Abnormal and Clinical Psychology at Swansea is designed to equip students with an advanced understanding of the theory and practice of clinical psychology in healthcare settings. Take part in an exciting new course designed specifically for those wishing to be ultrasound practitioners. You'll learn all the professional knowledge and skills to work as a Sonographer* in the healthcare sector. A first in the UK, this programme is open to graduates from all backgrounds with clinical placements provided by NHS partners across the region, providing practical applications of the knowledge you learn from studying.

We have modules covering a range of ultrasound specialisms, from general medical purposes to obstetrics, gynaecology and basic vascular assessment. Our accelerated programme is perfect for highly motivated individuals willing to self-direct their studies, taking on the responsibility to continue learning outside timetabled hours. With a current skills shortage in medical ultrasound, it's highly important to create trained professionals to meet the demand, so get started on a rewarding career through our direct entry course!

Enrolling students will be expected to complete the full award, it is not suitable for those wishing to only undertake a focused area of ultrasound. Unfortunately it is unavailbale for international students.

*'Sonographer' is not currently a protected title in the UK and at this present time graduates will NOT be eligible to be registered with the HCPC, although it is hoped that this will become a possibility in the future. For this reason, employment may not be possible in certain NHS trusts and some private sector organisations, although many organisations already employ sonographers from non-traditional backgrounds.

Course outline

This is an intensive, accelerated programme of study which requires highly motivated and committed people. There will be a mixture of practical sessions and traditional classroom learning, including lectures, group work and eLearning activities. Much of your studies will be self-directed and outside timetabled hours, allowing you to take responsibility for your own learning needs in meeting the demands of the accelerated programme.

Each module is credit rated. You may be assessed in various ways including coursework, presentations, reflective writing, verbal assessments, exams and reports. Assessment of clinical placements do not form part of the masters level assessed credits but is a requirement of the qualification and students will be assessed to ensure they are clinically competent in all areas before they can receive the award.

This course is accredited by the Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE). Students are required to be student members of the Society & College of Radiographers (SCoR) whilst in training, and on completion, registration with the SCoR's voluntary register of Sonographers will be expected by employers.

Graduate destinations

Sonographers may work in the NHS, in the private and voluntary sectors, and overseas. This is an exciting time for the ultrasound specialism, with expansion of its role leading to increased job opportunities in new developments.

Other admission requirements

Please note we require a 1st or upper 2nd class honours degree, however those with a 2:2 will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Minimum of 5 GCSE passes to include Maths, English and Science (grade B or above for Science). At least one science subject at A-level (or equivalent) at grade C or above. Applicants must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the subject area and clinical specialism. All applicants, who meet the entry requirements, will be asked to submit a 1500 word assignment. Only those who achieve a grade equivalent to 2:2 or above 50% (marked to level 6 undergraduate) will be invited to interview.

The Master of Science in Accounting Program (MSAC) is a one-year full-time program that aims at providing postgraduate accounting education to students with bachelor degrees in business and non-business disciplines, and bridges them with a channel to enter accounting-related professions.

The program is both practical and academically rigorous. It intends to groom “thinking” professional accountants at postgraduate level and educate them to become successful business professionals across different business functions, such as accounting, finance, treasury, taxation, auditing, business consulting, and corporate strategic planning. The program will further promote the collaborations and connections with the professional community, e.g., CPA firms and other corporations.

Students will be provided with specialised knowledge in accounting which will enable them to enter the HKICPA QP, as well as related fields of finance, information systems, international business and investment so that graduates can make a significant contribution to the functioning and development of their employing organizations.

The course involves advanced study of organisations, their management, the role of accounting for internal and external users, and the changing external context in which they operate. Students will develop the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of accounting to complex issues.
Course Structure

The course is a full-time programme lasting 12 months. It consists of two parts:

Part 1:

Is a wholly taught component, contributing 120 credits. All taught modules carry a credit weighting of 15 credits. Part 1 is taught during the two semesters which make up the academic year.

Part 2:

This consists of either a supervised Dissertation of around 10,000 words, or a structured Advanced Taught Programme of Summer Study that is specific to accounting.
