There is currently a continued growth in demand for specialists in computer science and our course builds on the subject's core principles, with a specific focus on the issues involved in implementing and maintaining an information system, as well as its design and development.

This course aims to provide you with:
• the intellectual competencies to pursue personal career goals and aspirations within the IT industry
• the ability to design and implement an information system
• skills to respond to challenging situations, including problem diagnosis, and confidence in selecting appropriate solutions
• an awareness of the moral and ethical issues that an information system might impact on, and the ability to implement IT strategies to • conform with appropriate moral and ethical guideline constraints
• the ability to evaluate the security of existing information systems and to encapsulate appropriate secure controls with the design of such systems

It will cover relevant aspects of software development, design and the technical infrastructures of an information system. During your studies you will be expected to develop software applications to support databases, multimedia tools, browsers, servers and to set up the infrastructure to support them.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
• utilise an extensive, in-depth knowledge of the concepts and theory of information systems and their design
• communicate an awareness of current research and developments within the discipline, which you can evaluate and critically appraise

The UK video games industry is worth £3.78 billion and there’s currently a recognised skills shortage of skilled games designers. If you have a first degree in computer science or a similar technical degree, our course will give you the skills to confidently create advanced level games.

Based in Cambridge, the heart of the UK’s games development industry, you’ll work in our Computer Game Development studio and hub, where you’ll create games both on your own and in teams, and gain the technical design skills to publish successfully across a range of platforms.

As well as furthering your development skills, you’ll also focus on games programming and tailor your research project so that you can concentrate on developing skills in an area that you’re passionate about.

We constantly focus on entrepreneurial opportunities, and sharing modules with our MA Computer Games Development (Art) means you’ll work with different strands of the games industry and meet and build your contacts ready for your career. Careers

It can take up to three years to create a game, all the way from initial concept to the finished product. One game can involve up to 200 professionals working as a team.

As a game developer, you could design the visual styling as well as how it plays. You could be involved with animating characters and objects, creating audio, programming, testing and producing.

Besides working in the leisure/entertainment sector, you could use your skills to develop ‘serious’ games. These are used in rehabilitation, education and training, defence, science, health, city planning and engineering.

You could also go into a career in marketing, teaching or general technology.

As more large and complex applications and datasets are being stored and analysed remotely across the internet we can see cloud computing changing the IT landscape.

Because cloud computing is a relatively new computing paradigm, the in-depth knowledge of the technologies, components and processes involved in the design of a cloud based infrastructure that you’ll gain will put you at the forefront of the industry.

You’ll constantly compare your study to real life examples, as you work to understand consequences for both the end-users and IT services, in terms of software and hardware provisioning, network resilience and data security, as well as business applications of cloud computing and big data.

As developers it’s crucial we act ethically, so you’ll consider legal and security aspects of data protection and information security, while ensuring you’re critically aware of current problems and developing new insights on the subject.

Learn how to identify new and existing cyber threats and determine methods and processes to minimise attacks. Gain skills in a real-life business context, by cracking passwords and wireless networks and testing web applications for vulnerabilities and security breaches.

Cyber security is a priority for governments and organisations throughout the world. We’ll work together to explore how organisations and individuals can take action to protect themselves online from cyber-attacks.

We’ll begin by understanding networks and operating systems, how they work and the strengths and weaknesses of them. You’ll then think like a hacker, working from the inside out, as you recognise the threats to an organisation and its resources, and learn to implement and test secure systems.

Focusing on the strategic deployment and implementation of cyber security within an organisation, you’ll cover all aspects of cyber security including network security, computer security and information security.

You’ll apply your knowledge and skills hands-on in a real-life context, in our specialised lab, which is already equipped with tools such as Kali LInux, Wireshark, Nmap and Burp Suite. You’ll write your own Metasploit modules, automate social-engineering attacks, bypass antivirus software and turn access to one machine as you take total control of the enterprise.

You’ll gain skills in communicating information to higher levels of the corporation’s managers, giving you confidence to present your invaluable problem solving solutions and strategic security planning in any organisation.
