The Digital Business Enterprise Management programme has been designed by one of the UK’s leading research groups in Digital Business and Operations and Supply Chain Management. The programme is managed and delivered by the Marketing and Operations Group, which has an excellent record in research and industrial collaboration at regional, national and international level.

As a leading university in its field, the Management School has selected to partner with SAP to support its teaching programmes. The Management School was one of the first universities to join the SAP UK Universities Alliance Programme and is currently a steering group member for the SAP UK Alliance Programme. The Management School delivers highly successful SAP Certification Courses for its students on the Digital Business Enterprise Management and Operations and Supply Chain Management programmes. Students on the programme are offered the opportunity to obtain the highly regarded SAP TERP10 certification. To date, students on the programme have achieved amongst the highest pass rates for SAP Certification. Through its unique placement in the Management School, the programme also offers students the opportunity to develop operations management skills through access to a range of elective modules from other programmes and divisions in the School.

Programme Overview

The programme also offers an opportunity for students to apply their newly acquired knowledge in this subject area through the main project which could be research based or industry linked. Since the start of the programme over 70% of our students have been involved in industrial related projects offering an opportunity for them to be directly exposed to contemporary digital business enterprise practices.

To achieve this, the programme structure and delivery was developed to provide students with a wide range of skills and options for extending their knowledge in this area, such as:

- An understanding of the impact of the internet and e-business on various industry sectors. The emerging corporate ICT strategic needs and how these needs are assessed in view of the new e-business opportunities.
- Formulating and developing an integrated corporate e-business strategy. Understanding and selecting e-business enabling technologies. Assessing strategic e-business models. Planning and evaluating resource implications of new e-business strategies.
- Understanding e-market places, exchanges and developing e-procurement strategies. Developing internet, intranet and extranet policies. Awareness of national and international e-business, e-commerce initiatives.
- Skills in web based programming, web based information management and retrieval. Practical applications of web authoring and scripting tools, as well as database integration.
- Obtaining skills in the use of enterprise resources planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP
- Analysis of business needs and developing e-business and e-commerce system specifications. The design and implementation of secure robust e-business systems.
- e-business system methodologies and packages. The selection and configuration of enterprise based tools. Understanding and assessing Internet security policies.

Through its unique placement in the Management School, the programme also offers students the opportunity to develop operations management skills through access to a range of elective modules from other programmes and divisions in the School. - The development of robust supply chain management solutions, supply chain planning and control models. The development and assessment of information systems for supply chain control.
- International business and developing competitive strategies for business enterprises.
- The analysis and representation of business models and utilising modelling and simulation tools for the optimisation of business performance.
- Understanding contemporary management practice and current management drivers and the emergence of new agility paradigm. Developing strategic management and business economics policies.
- The application of advanced tools and techniques associated with managing quality in the manufacturing and service industries. Improvement methodologies and ISO9000:2000. Applying Taguchi methods and advanced quality planning.

Learn specialist theory

You will be exposed to current theories and practices in large and small businesses around the world. The programme develops understanding of theoretical and conceptual frameworks that enhance understanding of the strategy and operations of multinational firms, including exporting and importing, and a wide range of different types of foreign direct investments. You will learn how cross-cultural differences influence the structure of management systems and operational functions in the wide variety of international business activities undertaken by multinational firms. The complex nature of the international business environment is examined, including the effects on international business activities of major changes to economic, technological, social, institutional and cultural environments. The influence on effective international management of the changing nature of business interactions between countries is also examined. The programme has a strong focus on emerging economies such as Brazil, China and India.

You will cover the key business topics of accounting, marketing, finance, and economics. Combined with knowledge of the key characteristics of international business environments, and international strategy, you will be able to analyse major issues in international management and deal with the challenges of the global business environment.

One crucial aspect of a successful organisation is its ability to manage exposures to risk. In the financial markets, the ability to manage risky positions effectively is both a fundamental skill and a regulatory requirement.

This programme will provide you with the mathematical and econometric skills and financial training necessary to address the issues related to quantifying, pricing and managing exposures to risk in the financial markets.

Upon completion of the MSc in Financial Risk Management students will be able to:

The MSc Sports Business offers students a Masters level understanding of the global business of sport; its organisations, stakeholders and the disciplines which make it operate successfully, with a business focus on the challenges and opportunities within the global sports business. The programme provides students with the opportunity to study an MSc Sports Business in a Russell Group University which has an excellent reputation and network within football, horse racing, cricket, rugby and other sports based on its provision of high quality education in the business of sport over the past 15 years.

Modules cover the global context of sports business, sports marketing and sponsorship, sports operations and events, and leadership in sport. In the capstone 'Sports Business Practice' module students will have opportunities to visit Premier League Football Clubs as well as high profile sports businesses from cricket, rugby and other sports. Students will have access to excellent sports business speakers to enhance their understanding of the practical aspects of working in the global sports business market.

The opportunity to benefit from a range of exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) professional qualification modules, which are highly sought by employers.

- The chance to undertake innovative forms of assessment involving live projects in order to blend theory with practice. Students have worked hands-on with various public and private sector organisations (e.g. Liverpool City Council, Liverpool University Library, Woolton Cinema, Liverpool Farmers’ Markets) providing a diverse range of answers to real marketing problems.
- A working knowledge of contemporary marketing issues. Coursework on recent modules has included topics such as analysis of consumer behaviour regarding social media and music downloading.
- Networking opportunities with marketing experts. In addition to a dynamic range of academic staff, guest lectures from Marketing Directors and Marketing Consultants provide real-world expertise and advice for students.
- The chance to take part in a vibrant research environment, enriched by major international marketing conferences and seminars held at the university and hosted by the School’s Marketing group.
- This 12-month programme consists of eight taught compulsory modules followed by a Strategic Business Analysis/Dissertation carried out over the summer period upon completion of Semester Two.

Programe Overview

MSc Economics places much emphasis on the area of mathematics and has been designed particularly for those students who intend to continue their studies on to PhD level, within the fields of Economics or Financial Economics, potentially pursuing a career in academia. The programme is also an excellent opportunity for students who may wish to pursue a more professional mode of career development, for instance working within international organisations or research institutes.

The majority of current students have first-class undergraduate degrees in Economics, Finance or Mathematics from Russell Group universities. The programme also attracts students from other internationally renowned universities.

The programme provides students with the option of two pathways: the ‘Financial Economics Pathway’ and the ‘Economics Pathway’. Under each pathway, modules have been introduced to provide students with advanced training in economics or financial economics. Recent dissertation titles have included: ‘A Theoretical Exposition of the Relationship Between Fuel Taxation and Speed Limits: Lessons for UK Motorways’ and ‘Money Growth and Inflation: Evidence from the UK’.

This cutting edge MSc programme will equip you with the mathematical, financial and computational skills needed to quantify and manage risk effectively in today’s finance, investment and insurance industries. Such companies use advanced probabilistic models at the core of their business. They recruit people with the right mathematical, statistical and programming skills and financial knowledge who can understand, develop and implement such models.

The course is also an excellent preparation for students wishing to embark upon research degree (PhD) in financial or actuarial mathematics. Working professionals who would like to move from their current field into finance or for finance professionals who would like to take their careers to the next level will also benefit greatly from this course.

You will gain a strong understanding of:

- applied probability theory, stochastic analysis and mathematical modelling
- computational methods
- financial derivatives
- risk management methodologies
- financial econometrics

The 12-month programme consists of seven taught compulsory modules plus one taught elective module, followed by a research project carried out over the summer period upon completion of Semester Two. The course is taught mainly by members of the Institute for Financial and Actuarial Mathematics which is part of the Department of Mathematical Sciences . We offer a very wide range of modules, from advanced algebra and geometry, to partial differential equations, probability theory, stochastic analysis, and mathematical physics. With these you can tailor your programme to specialise in one of these areas, or gain a broad understanding of several. This allows you to build up the required background for the project and dissertation modules, which offer the opportunity to undertake an in-depth study of a topic of your choice, supervised by a leading expert in the field.

At Liverpool, we listen to employers’ needs. Alongside key problem solving skills, employers require strong communication skills. These are integral to this programme. Graduates go on to research degrees, or become business and finance professionals, or to work in management training, information technology, further education or training (including teacher training) and scientific research and development.

Career prospects

The excellent University Careers Service is open to all postgraduates. Graduates of the MSc and PhD programmes move on to many different careers. Recent graduates have moved into fast track teacher programmes, jobs in finance (actuarial, banking, insurance), software development, drugs testing and defence work, as well as University postdoctoral or lecturing posts. The MSc programme is of course a natural route into doctoral study in Mathematics and related fields, both at Liverpool and elsewhere. Some of our PhD students move on to postdoctoral positions and to academic teaching jobs and jobs in research institutes, both in the UK and elsewhere.

Upon successful completion of the degree you will be ideally equipped to work in investment banks, pension or investment funds, hedge funds, consultancy and auditing firms or government regulators.
