The Master’s in Economic Analysis (MEA) offers a two-years learning programme in English. Besides providing students with a strong methodological basis, it focuses on comparative, regional, and sectoral issues. Core courses are Advanced Comparative Economics, Health Policy and Finance, and Institutions of Economic Policy, which form the basis of the three specialisations of:

• Comparative Economics,
• Health Economics, and
• Labour Studies.

Students interested in economic and political matters in Central and Eastern Europe, topics in labour and health economics, or comparative studies of post-socialist countries are expected to apply to the programme, which also offers a large number of elective courses including catch-up courses like Business English, and Foundations of Calculus and Statistics.

Students also develop research, communication, and other professional skills to advance their career objectives. The program is operated by CEU, Lund University (Sweden), the University of Manchester (UK), the University of the Aegean (Greece), the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) (USA). Graduates are awarded MSc degrees by CEU, Lund University, and the University of Manchester.

These innovative and interdisciplinary programs provide students with comprehensive knowledge in the field of mathematics, both pure and applied, focusing on three fundamental areas: algebra, analysis, and probability. The programs benefit from the opportunities offered by the rich local academic environment, including the Alfred Renyi Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS), the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and Eotvos Lorand University (ELTE). The one-year program is suitable for students who have completed four years of undergraduate university study, while the two-year program is designed for applicants with a three-year bachelor’s degree.

Department of Mathematics and Its Applications

In close collaboration with the Alfred Renyi Institute of Mathematics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the department enables students to expand their knowledge in mathematics and its applications through intensive course work, excellent research opportunities,
