You’ll become knowledgeable in knowing how to make a company stand out from the competition, developing innovative brand and communications plans, while also developing skills in digital marketing in the final stage of the course.

The final core Major Project module is tailored to your career aspirations. The module provides three project options - a work-based study route enabling you to relate the project to a current employer, or a ‘consultancy project’ option where you find a client who has a marketing problem that you feel you can solve; or a traditional dissertation involving both the theory and practice of marketing.

Course Structure

The course runs for 12 months (full-time, September start) and is split into three stages, each lasting at least 10 weeks. Assessment is of a practical nature, including assignments, reports, presentations and examinations.

Each module consists a mixture of lectures, seminars, workshops, online interactive activities and assessments. Typically each module is taught on a weekly basis during term time, consisting of three hours per module per week split into one, two or three-hour sessions. A total of 9 contact hours per week is typical over a 10 week period for Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 3 will consist of three hours of contact time per week, supplemented with project supervision meetings as and when required for the Major Project.

Each 20-credit module is designed to require 200 hours of study, of which 30 hours or more will be via direct contact with module tutors. The remaining time will consist of independent learning, which will be structured with guidance from the module tutor to incorporate activities such as online learning, reading and group or team based work.

Emphasis will be placed on the group as a resource for learning. There will be group discussion of practical management situations and problems, making use of case studies, problem situations and scenarios and, where relevant, the participants' own experiences.

Assessment on the programme is designed to be an integral part of your learning process, enhancing and demonstrating your knowledge and practice. Formative feedback will be provided to you through a combination of self-reflection, peer group and tutor feedback. Summative assessments will provide a measure of the extent to you have achieved the learning outcomes of the modules.

Assessment within the modules will take various forms, including coursework assignments, reports, controlled assessment, examinations and the dissertation or project. You may be required to defend the dissertation or project through a viva, drawing on the skills developed in the programme.

In your year on the programme, you’ll be planning digital marketing and advertising campaigns with leading digital agencies, developing brand and product promotions with prestigious clients, making mobile, social and virtual content with award-winning industry professionals and building new user journeys with emerging technologies and state-of-the –art resources.

You’ll get to work with top agency professionals and impressive client accounts on state-of-the-art campaigns as you tackle challenging briefs with our industry partners who include some of the worlds most important agencies: Unruly, Mediacom, Think Jam, Found, Red Bee Media, AMV XLAB and SapientNitro. MSc Video Game Enterprise and Production is a year-long Masters-level course for the next generation of games industry entrepreneurs and producers. We give people who want to work in games an in-depth experience of the full game development process combined with all the hard-edged business skills they need to run a small games business or manage a studio production. Employers of our graduates include Rockstar North, Traveller’s Tales, Creative Assembly and Exient.

You'll get specialist skills training, mentoring and support from leading game developers, artists, producers and business owners, with experience at such big-name developers as Eurocom, Electronic Arts and Freestyle Games, while Programme Director Zuby Ahmed founded his own company, SmashMouth Games. The course is delivered in a series of ‘boot camps’ followed by one-to-one support, studio based game development and project delivery.

Broadcast technologies are continually evolving and converging with other information and media distribution formats, including the web, games and virtual environments. The UK traditionally has a high calibre of recognition in the TV production and technology industries. Our course aims to capitalise on and maintain the UK expertise in this area, whilst continually evolving the delivery of technology in this rapidly changing area.

Our course is designed both to prepare you for a technical or commercial career and provide a route to the specialisation needed for a research career. It is also suitable for graduates of internet and communications related courses who have worked for several years and wish to update your knowledge at the forefront of the discipline.

The programme is designed to enable you to develop a thorough technical and theoretical understanding, focusing on vocational and practical skills directly relevant to industry. Course in depth

Knowledge, understanding and intellectual skills are acquired through a variety of practical learning and teaching approaches, these may include: formal lectures, interactive tutorial sessions, laboratory sessions, seminars, residential courses and directed independent learning activities.

Analytical skills are developed through coursework tasks that encourage creativity and problem solving using a range of systems and technologies relevant to commercial web service delivery. Group tutorial and practical work are also utilised in programme delivery. Learners are assessed both formatively and summatively by a number of methods.

Formative assessment occurs throughout the programme and involves feedback from peers and tutors and individual reflection. Feedback on work in progress is available prior to the submission of summative assessments.

A range of summative assessment methods are employed involving both individual and group assignments, written coursework assignments and practical project work, laboratory sessions, tests and examinations.

Summative assessment methods for all modules are identified in a module guide and, for coursework, assessment details and criteria are specified in each assignment brief.

As well as developing and applying skills through assignment work, the Research Methods module in the second semester introduces research skills in preparation for the dissertation. Independent learning is encouraged through research tasks for assignments and in the requirement to plan work schedules to meet deadlines for coursework submission.

Transferable and key skills are core to the learning strategy of the programme.
