Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) – the nature of the relationship between corporates, governments and communities has become increasingly significant as all parties become aware of the potential positive (or negative) impacts of businesses on the world beyond their immediate and obvious activities.

This MSc is designed to enable students to apply ways of thinking about CSR to local and global industries such as telecoms, finance, commodities trading and the extractive industries. Incorporating the study of a diverse array of local to global factors, the course assists students in grasping the complexities of the contemporary issues and challenges facing a variety of sectors and their role in development alongside governments and third sector organisations.

You will learn how to:
• Identify problems facing companies under the umbrella of social responsibility;
• Draw upon a range of sources to generate solutions to these problems;
• Apply conceptual frameworks in order to enhance understanding about the impacts of corporate policies;
• Recognise and reconcile the competing demands of corporate policies and stakeholder interests;
• Forecast the positive and negative impact of policies and actions in a manner that reduces corporate risk;
• Demonstrate the value of CSR in order to better inform decision-making.

Your programme of study

Physicians Associates support doctors to diagnose and manage patients mostly in hospital settings but you may also work in busy GP practises. Currently PAs work in England and Scotland in a wide range of speciality areas. Physician Associates were brought into the medical profession to meet the demands of the NHS. They were introduced in 2015 to tackle workload pressures of GPs. The Faculty of Physicians Associates is currently working to gain statutory registration for PAs. The Secretary of State has mandated that there should be 1000 PAs working in Primary Care by 2020.

At Aberdeen you will be trained to provide a thorough range of PA duties and you will often diagnose, take medical histories, perform examinations, analyse test results and develop management plans. You will have the chance to choose general surgery, emergency medicine, reproductive health and paediatrics as a specialism. The university has a long established history in teaching medicine. It is ranked 7th in the UK for medicine (Guardian University Guide 2016).

The role of Physicians Associate is a relatively new area and it is designed to supplement the diagnostic needs within busy medical settings which involve specialist hospital doctors so that they could concentrate more on specialist consultancy and other areas of work. You have employment options across the UK. If you want to be a Physicians Associate this programme gives you the knowledge, skills and attitudes to practice in the UK in many different clinical settings as part of multidisciplinary healthcare teams. This programme is offered in partnership with NHS Grampian.

Your programme of study

If you enjoy understanding the way we think and interact with the world and different areas in it, especially the behaviours and coping mechanisms displayed within health and health care this advanced degree will enable you to play an active role in solving major health challenges. As a society we have already seen the positive health impacts of therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy and mood control, moving many away from traditional drug therapies to thinking therapies.

As we understand more about the power of the mind we can look at ways to improve our quality of life and impact on others and our life experiences to promote good health outcomes much earlier on and work towards them. This is a highly rewarding field which can have a major impact on people's lives and create more positive outcomes within health services to better manage long term illness, disability, stress and impacts on our coping mechanisms.

The University of Aberdeen MSc in Health Psychology, which is accredited by the British Psychological Society, offers you the opportunity to expand on and apply your knowledge and skills to help solve some of the big health issues facing society today. To be considered it is ideal to have a 2:1 Honours degree in Psychology or equivalent programme overseas which is equivalent to the British Psychological Society accreditation. Topics covered in Health Psychology include:
